rims and tires

Yeah , i know, but it is still a head scratcher. Especially on the optioned up cars and Imperials

Those few dollars for road wheels back in the day was a lot of money.... even for optioned Cs's and Imps.

Were road wheels an option on Imperials? I think they have different bolt patterns, so the standard road wheels wouldn't fit, right?

Didn't Ross have a set of 5 on 5 road wheels a few months back.

Yes they were an option and yes the bolt was 5 on 5 opposed to the normal c body wheel. Hardly see them on Imperials and thats where the money was

I posted that pic. out of the 72 Imp brochure to see if anyone could come up with lit that lists Road Wheels as an option on Imps.
Nobody commented about the T&C either.

In the case of Hemi's yellow Imp, Glenn B. used aluminum adapters to convert the bolt pattern. I'm not so sure about 5 on 5 road wheels.

I agree with Dave though about a buy spending big bucks for a car & then skimping on the wheels. Makes no sense why anybody would wanna did through ditches looking for their frickin wheel covers.

My 1972 Chrysler features book shows road wheels as not available for Imps.

Not knowing squat about Imperials I ALWAYS thought they were and could swear on seeing a few over the years, Looks like maybe not...

I think the 5 on 5 road wheels are really Chevy wheels right Bob?

Just kidding.

My parents 77 Gran Fury wagon came with dog dishes and beauty rings and I think the dealer or first owner added the white wall piece, I don't know what it is really called, went between rim and tire so you could buy cheaper black walls and keep the insert or white wall, of course it looked like crap after the first set of tires wore out.

The Keller, Exner, slab and fuselage Imperials all used 5 x 5 bolt circle. No road wheels available...none made by Chrysler Corp. GM 5x5 wheels have shown up on these cars over the years trying to capitalize on the gorgeous road wheel look. Or, as mentioned spacers and other mods to put the Chrysler 4.5 x 5 road wheels on the Imperials.

Formal Imperials, moved to the 4.5 x 5 bolt circle, so road wheels are a bolt on (my Imperials below). Road wheels show as N/A in the Formal catalogs as well, so they wouldn't roll off the car carrier with them. In 1975 I witnessed a new Imperial prospective owner in the show room tear a strip off the salesman's back-as he wanted the road wheels from a Newport on the lot as part of the sale. The salesman thought they wouldn't fit, but the buyer to be would not relent and demanded they try.

Well, the Imperial left the lot with road wheels and there was a Newport on the lot with Imperial wheel covers...so I suppose you could say that for Formal Imperials road wheels were a "dealer option"

Oh, and as Commando has mentioned, road wheels were N/A on the T&C, yet were available on the Royal Monaco Brougham wagon...I can only assume it was some corporate packaging decision...I put them on my T&C anyway! (below)

Up to and including 1973.....Imps were 5 on 5 wheels.... weren't they?
