Road Trip Songs

I defy you to listen to Jessica by the Allman Brothers from start to finish without burying you right foot by the time you get to the end of that tune no matter what speed you started at when you hear it! Jer
Ya beat me to it! Jessica is probably my all time favorite cruisin' tunes!

These are a few that strike a cord when I'm cruisin'...
Iris Dement - Our Town
Traffic - Low Spark of High Heeled Shoes
Townes Van Zandt - Pancho & Lefty
Kris Kristofferson - Lovin Her was Easier
Texas Tornados - Who Were You Thinking Of
Neil Young - The Old Laughing Lady
Doors - Road House Blues
Joe Bonomassa - Driving Towards the Daylight

I could keep going...

I know Townes wrote Pancho and Lefty, but Emmylou Harris' version puts me in a trance every time. Some other great highway songs:

Boogie back to Texas - Asleep at the wheel
Highway Star - Deep Purple
Rockin down the highway - Doobies
Aint going down till the sun comes up - Garth Brooks
Cowboys like us - George Strait
Get Back - Beatles
Old Greyhound - Hoyt Axton

Oh there are way more great road songs than there is time to hear em.

My top ten are the following however not in any specific order......

1. Faithfully ( Lorrie Morgan )
2. Walk of life ( Dire Straits )
3. Money for nothing ( Dire Straits )
4. Spaced ( Aerosmith )
5. Miami my Amy ( Kieth Whitley )
6. Church of the poison mind ( Culture Club )
7. MacArthur Park ( Donna Summer )
8. Angel ( Lorrie Morgan )
9. Watch closely now ( Kris Kristofferson )
10. Band on the run ( Paul McCartney )

I've always been into Classic Rock, long before it was called Classic Rock. I grew up listening to the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and other bands from that era. I love a lot of the songs already mentioned by others. If you were to check the discs in my CD player, this would be one that you'd find.

Disc One:

1. Rain - The Cult
2. Dancin' Fool - Guess Who
3. Anyway Anytime - Wrabit
4. Desperado - Eagles
5. Feeling That Way - Journey
6. Don't Let Him Know - Prism
7. Just Remember I Love You - Firefall
8. Never Be The Same - Chilliwack
9. Winds Of Change - Jefferson Starship
10. On And On - Michael Schenker Group
11. Drivers Seat - Sniff 'N The Tears
12. Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
13. Free For All - Ted Nugent
14. Secret Smoke - Queen City Kids
15. Dreams I'll Never See - Molly Hatchet
16. Shotdown - April Wine
17. Livin' On A Thin Line - Kinks
18. Nothing Else Matters - Metallica

That's one of many discs that I burned for the road. I like to mix well known songs and artists with some of the more obscure stuff that the radio stations don't play all too often. :)

Just for Teutonic roads : Autobahn by Kraftwerk

To me, "Feeling that way" by Journey must always be immediately followed by "Anytime".

LOL! Yeah, Fishfan, I know what you mean. It's like it's one song almost. I remember back in the day when the FM rock stations like 92-CITI used to always play both songs together. Lately they rarely play both songs. I debated when I was burning my disc whether to put both songs on it and sometimes wish that I had. Prism's "Don't Let Him Know" does seem to work quite well to follow Journey's "Feeling That Way" though. :)
