Hello I just purchased my 72 NYB Coupe and am looking for some insight on how to go about repairing this rusted out area. This is the only area on the car that has rot otherwise it is a very clean solid car. This picture is on the drivers side below the door. There is a rubber bushing under one end of this rail. Is this whole piece replaceable or repairable? Would one call this a subframe rail? I'd like to know how deep in dirt did I dig myself into or if this can be repaired easily.

The front sub frame unbolts rather easily but there is a lot to take off when it comes to the front clip of the car. The picture doesn't show enough when it comes to how far the rust goes. If it is only a localized area then cutting out and either fabricating some fresh metal shaped to fit or use a donor frame to cut a similar piece out will be the way to go.
I had a VERY rusty front frame in my car and decided to replace the whole thing which I did while my engine and box was out of the car. I unbolted all relevant attachment points and rolled the old chassis out the front and rolled in the new one from a donor car. That is a worst case scenario. Until you can get under there and give it a close inspection one cannot say how much work this will be.

Thank you for the reply! Id like to mention that it is rather isolated on the end of that rail. Welding in some new metal or installing one from a donor car is the way I will go.

Actually, disconnecting the fuel, brake lines and wiring harness and then taking out 6 bolts is much easier and safer. Where in PA are you? I will have a stub frame from a '73 stripped down shortly.
