My ignition switch is bad if the engine cuts out but I can keep her running by turning the key towards the start position ?

It would explain the gremlins if it is bad. Now to find one on the Carlisle fairgrounds and get it installed.

that would be an easier fix then the switch but if it turns out to be the switch we all know that Will can swap a trans on the grounds, hopefully he brings his steering wheel puller.

If you have other stuff acting up, the bulkhead connector might be suspect but I would check the ballast resistor too. When the switch is in the start position it bypasses the ballast resistor.

Unless the switch is really sloppy feeling with the key I'd be surprised if that's the problem.

I'll give you $2500 for it. . .

The key is tight like it ought to be. The ballast looks cooked but not broken. Gonna find one and swap it regardless. I've been having some issues with her. Stalling for no reason. Sometimes she'll start right up, others I gotta wait, which seems like a fuel problem. BUT when it does try to stall or sputter the amp gauge dances like it has a sudden draw....

sounds like the ballast resistor. the key (pun intended) is that you can keep it the car running with the key on the "start" position.

As someone stated, the ballast is bypassed in the start position (to deliver a full 12v for cold starts). You can just put an insulated jumper wire across the ballast connections to rule in/out the problem. Or temporarily if you're stranded.

But you will soon be surrounded by ballast resistors.

Sounds like the ballast resistor is the culprit but I've experienced similar issues that turned out to be the fusible link.
