Saved a Polara today.

2 bad knees ... L4 and L5 ruptured. But I try not to let the little things get in the way. Hopefully the rain moves thru tonight. I should be able to get under hood pic tomorrow. He had an ignition key but no trunk key on the ring so I’ll be looking in the ashtray and glove box then under the seats. If I have to I’ll pull the backseat and do the broomstick with the screwdriver taped to it and see if I can pop it from the inside. I definitely don’t want to hack up that lid. Too nice. I was able to glimpse under the front and the stub looked solid. The roll back driver was in a hurry to go so I didn’t have time to grab some pics. I’ll work on the pics. To think what fate it would have suffered by now just glad she’s safe....

Nice job on the save! Looks like you have a good car to work with and enjoy as you drive it. As I have said, always makes me feel better to see one saved and be put back on the road.

Great work on saving it, and thank you for doing that also as us C-body folk HATE seeing one of these go to the scrapper. You would be correct on the 383 as it is the standard 383 (code L on the fender tag), and it does also have A/C as you mentioned (code H51 on the fender tag). To my knowledge it was built September 17th 1969 (917 on the fender tag), it was built in Canada at the Windsor Ontario plant (code R on the fender tag), but built to USA specs (Y05 on the fender tag)

The Windsor assembly plant built some of the nicest mopars. I grew up as a kid around the corner from the plant and my dad worked there for 23 years. I remember they used to line the chainlink fence partway around the plant with heavy plastic just before the new product line would come out so people in the area couldn't see the new cars coming off the line. they wanted you to go to the dealer to see them. the ones I remember the most were the 70 to 73 roadrunners and sebrings. I would walk down the railway tracks that paralled the parking lot once in a while I would see the guys roasting the tires in the parking lot when they came off the assembly line. memories I will never forget. my dad may have put some of the parts on one of your beloved mopars.

Nice save! How coincidental that you were an essential part in saving my Polara, and now you have almost an identical spec version of mine (far fetched but still). Hopefully you get it to a point where she isn’t a parts car anymore.

I think it’s cool because it was built in Ontario. I’m not well versed on the Polara assembly plants and locations as Sport Fury 70 said it has the YO5 designation which is really neat!

It is technically NOT just Polara's, it is all the cars' assembly plants. All cars that were built to Canadian Specs would be Y07 on the fender tag.

I usually get the finger when I try to get them to pull over but this guy did! He said he had picked it up from an elderly lady trying to clear her back yard. He was on his way to scrap yard. He told me they will likely give him $80 so I said how’s $150 sound. Anyhow he brought it all the way to my backyard. It was being driven until about 1 1/2 years ago. Not sure what I’m going to do with her but for now she’s safe in my yard.
