I got wondering this, it's something I've spoken to other car guys about, thought I'd ask your opinions. So what tools and equipment do you bring with you to Scrapyards and/or Junkyards that allow you to pull your own parts?

Nick

I have a small box that will carry an assortment of screwdrivers, long and stubbies as well, along with two sets of open/box end wrenches 1/4-3/4, vice grips, side cutters, and of course a socket set, standard and metric.I almost forgot, the BIG hammer!

I pretty much have the same thing in my junkyard box, plus things like: a small flashlight, putty knife or scraper, set of fence pliars, crescent wrench, strap wrench, a small hacksaw, penetrating oil - and 100 DEET insect repellent!!!

EDIT: Almost forgot - small hydraulic jack and a bottle of water.:wtg:

All the above...... plus vise grips..... and some doggy treats..... The junk yard will be your best friend.

General toolbox with all the standard gizmo's to take things apart.

Sounds like we all carry about the same things I've got an old hand carry tool box with Imperial Wrenches, Sockets (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive), assortment of pliers (side cutters, needlenose, slipjoint, and a few pairs of different sized and styled vice-grips), a few different hammers (Ball Peen, Sledge etc), flashlight, gloves (Mechanix type and regular work gloves), box opener style knife, tape (masking & duct tape), sharpie or anytype of permanent marker, also an assortment of screw drivers and a small pry bar.

Other tools I bring along depending on what I'm after; 24V cordless reciprocating saw, old floor jack, jack stands, and other misc items that really do depend on what I need to remove, big or small.

Nick

Going scrounging this weekend.

Sounds like you might want to bring a wagon too.:wtg:

I have one of those tool kits you seem..."101 pcs" or whatever. I have had mine for probably 15 years of more. Only lost one screwdriver in all that time. Pretty uch just this tool box, and maybe a hammer, hack saw, vise grips, 1/2 breaker bar and deep sockets, good leather gloves, and a bottle jack...but like 69fury'vert said...it depends on what I'm after.

I bring the main tools, a saw and i have a radio flyer wagon that i put riding lawn mower front wheels on it, that way it is easy to pull through mud and weeds.

Yeah, pretty much the same as everyone else. A tool box that I carry in my trunk. I have a 1/4" ratchet with extensions, 1/4" SAE sockets and deep sockets; a 3/8" ratchet with extensions, 3/8" SAE sockets and deep sockets, 3/8" drive hex bit and Torx bit sockets; a 1/2" flex ratchet with SAE sockets, extensions and a 1/2" breaker bar that can also be used as an extension. I also have a set of combination wrenches in sizes from 5/16" to 1". I also have an 8" crescent wrench and an assortment of screwdrivers including Phillips, Robertson, Torx and slotted. Water pump pliers, slip joint pliers, needlenose pliers, wire cutters and Vise Grips. I also have tin snips and a hacksaw in my toolbox. I take a can of WD-40 and a really cool miniature ratchet wrench with an assortment of bits that comes in real handy for getting into tight places.
The yard that I go to won't allow jacks to be taken on to their property. They also won't let you drive your vehicle into their yard, but they do provide wheelbarrows to take your toolbox into the yard and to load the parts in to.
One other thing that would come in really handy, but I never think to take, would be a can of Wasp and Hornet Blaster! :)

I second that......! I got popped pretty good last summer by a swarm of wasps or hornets or something that had taken possesion of a 72 Imperial. Hurt for a week.

There's a junkyard within walking distance of my house that is closing down. He's retiring. I would love to take over as my last occupation.

Make an offer to lease from him and give him a cut of the take.....
Any old stuff there....? It may be a great online business.

No old mopar's. He's been making a killing towing and storing for the county and stretch of the interstate.
