shock plate/leaf spring pads or liners or whatever

Changing out the rear of my 59 for a later 8-3/4 and I have these fiber looking pads between the spring underside and shock mount plate, looks original but I don't have a parts book, when googling, I can't find any reference for these. Watching the Tube, i don't see anyone installing these on their charger or cuda or anything at all for that matter. Makes me think they're not mandatory but for a cushy driver, which is what I want, I'd like to replace these so a few issues. I can't figure out exactly what they're called and using terms like pads and insulators don't yield any mopar results. Does anyone have these on a car, are they a factory piece, are they useful, source? Thanks Jim

Hey Jim, those look exactly like the factory leaf spring isolators. They used them on these big C-Bodies to kill road vibration and give it that smooth luxury ride. That’s why you don’t see them on the muscle car videos – the Charger/Cuda guys usually clamp the axle tight for better handling.


Since you want a cushy driver, you definitely want to keep them or get new ones. If you can’t find the exact factory part, just search for generic "leaf spring liners" or anti-squeak pads. They make a big difference for the ride!

Most of the new anti squeak pads now are plastic. When I rebuilt my springs about 10 years ago I couldn’t find any cloth ones so I went with the plastic.

I'm still not finding anything except the pieces that go between the leafs, leaves?? I have new Eaton springs so those are good, I just need the fiber or rubber looking rectangle piece on top of the shock plate that the whole spring sits on.

Look at the cloth pads for Ford T-birds. I think these might do, though checking the measurements won't hurt before buying. I might look into this myself, though for now, I'm happy with what's on our '68. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
