Should I get my original carter carb back?

I paid them to rebuild my old carb. They released it back to me not properly rebuilt. I had to bring it back and they swapped it to a rebuilt edelbrock they had on their shelf. And when I inquired about what the issue was on the old one they said some spring was missing. wasn't the owner I normally deal with and kind of hard to get intelligent answers from.

OK. So. . . Their request for a C-Note from you is reasonable. Think of it this way: Yer getting a working Edelbrock carburetor for a hundred bucks. . . And you get to keep your original carb.

problem with this is that they charged him $700 to replace his valley pan and "rebuild" his carb. the owner receives his vehicle with the exact problem it in went to have repaired extant. this should now be a warranty repair. the repair they did perform was unauthorized and they attempted to levy a surcharge of $100 for it. i'm pretty sure this is illegal. if he pays the $100 it's not for the carb. he should have gotten that in the initial repair. he should definitely have gotten it along with an apology after the second repair. if the repairer was out anything, that amount would have been more than made up for in repeat business from a happy customer. unfortunately though, i have to agree with several of the above posts, that his options for remedy are limited. what he would be paying for now is more of a hundred dollar lesson in life (cheap) and it's likely his best choice.

Well. . . I didn't take into account the $700 repair bill, but that amount isn't too far out of line, since it also included the carb rebuild. Looks like they at least tried to make things right by furnishing a working Edelbrock, which appears to have resolved the problem. But maybe they should have made it clearer that he was to forfeit his old carb as part of the deal.

No, he brought the original back and was given a USED Edelbrock carb. Then they told him a hundred bucks gets him his old carb. They failed the first time around, and never should have given the car back with a poorly rebuilt carb. Then he came back and got the used Edelbrock. They didn't do the job right the first time, then just swapped in another used part, kept his original as hostage. That's complete bullshit. If they swapped his old carb for a new or professionally rebuild carb, there would be a core charge, and the old one wouldn't be seen by him again. They jacked him to the tune of $700 to put on a used carb they had laying around (no cost to them) and keep his old one for a ransom. No way will I ever agree with what the shop did, the parts that come off a customer's car, are the customers, not the shops, unless it's agreed upon before hand that the shop keeps whatever they want. (I get that no customer wants a used tie rod off an '87 Accord)

Sorry for barking at you, I just get pissed when I hear someone got taken by any shop. I worked in enough places to know how to treat the customer, and if you're going to gouge them in price, make damn sure whatever fix was done, will never be an issue again. I've had some hack techs working in back that we would just shake our heads when we saw their work. Over a dozen washers on the alternator adjusting bolt of some import? He always amazed us.

I would go back with 75 bucks in my hand and talk to the owner. tell him you were quite happy with the work and you would like your carb back to keep in the event you resell the car. if he doesn't take it then he is a crook and quite possibly an *******. make him feel happy for ten minutes and get on with your ****. if that doesn't work find out what he drives. sometimes paybacks take a while. lol

Who’s to say the carb that was on it was the original? I don’t think the original carb would bring a dime more resale value unless the rest of the car is 100% original.
