My 1970 Polara is going in for paint soon, the shop is asking if the side moldings are still available. I guess the rubber infill is removed then the strips are unscrewed, the manual I have is pretty vague. They're worried about damaging the strips and none being available. I think the infill is likely to distort on removal anyway, are the strips chrome or stainless?

Sorry but no, they are not screwed on and they are not easy to find. They are held on with mostly plastic clips that go over studs and some of the ends have clips with a bolt that goes through a hole. I see a red flag here. If the shop does not know how to remove these moldings then they should not touch the car. The moldings slide over the clips that go in a channel on the back side of the molding. There is a wide area at one end of the molding to slide them over the clips. That rubber is glued onto the molding. You don't want to remove the rubber as it will tear. See the photo and note the studs going down the side of the car.

Thanks for that Bill, I had a feeling it would be a bad move, I'm only too pleased that they asked me to find out and not just peel them off, there aren't too many Dodges going for paint over here took a while to find a good shop with a bay big enougth:thumbsup:

Everything is easily available NOS except the door moldings. Those are a bit harder to locate. Listen to Bill, he's got it right

MyMopar.com has downloadable parts books, in their Literature section, I believe. The pictures in there should give all of the detail needed on how the moldings attach as each of the plastic clips had specific part numbers on them.

There might be some specific molding screws in particular places, but the rest of the moldings will be clipped. The moldings are clear-anodized aluminum with black satin black paint (if there is any paint on them). Key thing might be IF the moldings are factory production items. Possibly post picture?

I have a '70 Monaco Brougham 4dr ht than I heed a rh rr molding for. Any ideas?

Thanks,
