was out this morning changing teh oil, wax on wax off, everything was splendid. brand new zinc valvoline oil good to go.

start it up, give it a few licks, and i hear the worst ever engine quief gurgle belch noise ever heard. somethings not right. houston! there is absofknloutely a problem! shut er down Norm, shes slingin Earl!

so WTH, the whole underside is drenched in oil - 5 quarts of pristine 50w racing oil with extra zinc are now in my driveway -

it looks like the filter failed somehow in some way at the seal -

when i was a hatchling and worked at jiffy lube it was common to see people taking off the old filter and Not check to see if the old rubber seal was On the filter and not stuck to the block...
then theyd screw the new one on,again without checking.

its the first thing i thought of,cause frams usually dont go bad.

so i tighten it down more than i should have to, wipe it dry, and pour 1 quart in. theres a fkn drip. WTH. this is the first wix filter i usually use fram, but in reading posts on this highly respected forum, i switched to a wix. so im thinking about returning this filter and trying to understand why an oil change is taking a half a day, and now i need another 5 quarts of go fast oil, crapola.

i tighten it more, doesnt feel cross threaded, put the watusi on it. add a half quart of oil up top. IT STILL DRIPS. HOLY H CHRIST ON A STICK.

fk it i pull the filter off, and i find an O ring totally out of place across where the oil filter stabs on.

aand its this.... the old ring off the old filter stayed with the car :/

Fram, Quaker State oil, Champion plugs, Chrysler corp. These company's have their haters. I've never had any problems & i think it's safe to say I mess with cars a lot more than the average bear. Although I screwed Autolites in a 440 yesterday. It's an engine I bought from a friend who hates Champion plugs. He said if I screw champs in his engine he will dis-friend me. So in went the Autolites just to keep him happy.

Well at least you got all that old oil out, and your driveway is properly lubricated!

Don't feel bad, I left the check key in my drill press and damn near shot it through the metal barn siding. Only one episode among other absent minded things too numerous to post.

:tool & diemaker hat on: I've smacked guys in the forehead for just that offense. :tool & diemaker hat off:

:poke:

I know that must have been frustrating. But what a great read! The writing style had me laughing my a** off.

100% operator error. the wix oil filter is perfectly OK. the old grommet ring off the old fram stayed behind so i then had 2 o rings in there and did not see it. . .

10 quarts of oil later we are back in business.

hey yall stay away from my 50w valvolene. both vatozone and oreallys stopped carrying it locally and i have to import it like wine or something .. .sheesh.

that stuff is +3 h.p. just lookin at it.

I switched from 10w40 to a 5w30 synthetic in a drag car one time & the car picked up 2 hundredths. The oil PSI was down to 25 vs 50 on the return road. Everyone said I would have oil leaks with that thin oil. Not a drip. I switched back to 10w30 Dino oil as a bit of a compromise as the engine was a bit loose
