SMS INTERIORS......

know they said they made my interior headliner but Paul says tags on it say it was farmed out
now the material per say has been pretty close match but never saw the old carpet in the GT so cant really say....also headliner wasnt same material...belive Paul called it a snakes tooth pattern and guess these were fairly common to mopars lm hearing so am thinking if you order a headliner this may be what they send out....has anyone else here ordered a headliner for a 70-71 c body and if so what did you recieve??

FYI, the pattern is called "snakebite".

It was used in a lot of Mopars for a long time.

See my next post for more info.

FWIW, I have received samples from SMS in the past with no issues.

Last year, when I started the interior on my 4DSD, I asked a local upholstery guy to get samples for the headliner. I picked up my original headliner from him 4 weeks later with no response from SMS. (at least that's what he told me)

I tried calling SMS 5 times and never spoke to a human. I left 2 voice mail messages and again, never got a response.

I ended up going with these guys:

Original Auto Interiors Inc. |

They were excellent to deal with. They farm out their headliners to these guys:

acmeautoheadlining.com

I had dimensional issues with their first attempt. Documented here:

(5) '67 Newport headliner, windlace, and trim | For C Bodies Only Classic Mopar Forum

Both companies went beyond expectations to accommodate my needs. I highly recommend them.

Here's a pic of the old over the new headliner with "snakebite pattern":

The fabric pattern itself is different (OAI made this clear from the start), but color and snakebite were pretty much dead on.

Hope the input helps.

Have to say I used them once in 2009. I ordered 2 yards of one material and 1 1/2 yards of another. I had them emboss the Ford gear emblem into a section for an extra $100. Wasn't in a hurry but arrived between 1-2 months later to bring to my upholstery guy to sew into a seat cover. Now my guy wouldn't have used him but I already had the material and I wanted the embossed emblem.

Original seat first and redone seat second and third.
