Actually, the Smart is a pretty damn safe little car. I've seen video of crash tests, where one is driven by remote control at 70 mph into a Jersey berm, placed at a 45* angle to the road, and the crash was 100% survivable, with minimal intrusion into the passenger cabin. Granted, the "crush zones" did their job, and the car was obviously not repairable; but it's one where the passenger dummy would've walked away from the wreck, and the driver would've had leg injuries, but would've survived.
I like a large car, just because there is plenty of room and there is not the claustrophobic feeling that you get in nearly every new car these days.
