Well, this marks the third year missing Cruising on Main st. First year back in CT I had nothing to show. Last year Bev wasn't even registered. This year, though I got the gas tank set last week, I was driving along and noted that I was white knuckling it all the way. Took her home and found that the bearing race on the passenger side had eaten itself into the hub... on the driver side, I found that there was a good 1/8" play in the output shaft of the steering box. Just didn't feel like 65 mph was a good idea after that.
So I ordered a new steering box, pitman and idler arm and new tie rods. All that was very crusty and it gives me the opportunity to get a real allignment thrown at her.
Still got a lot of cruising time left this summer and I'd rather spend some wrenching than all of it in the hospital.
Still.. would have loved some highway time today!
Hope some of you got some good weather and great riding this weekend.

I'd never drive anything if I worried that much! :poke: Just kidding you. I know all to well about wanting to drive a car, and having to wait to drive a car. I've missed a few shows this year because I didn't have my 500 ready. I took it for a big adventure yesterday, and it left me stranded between small towns. Alternator died, simple fix. These cars give us great pleasure, after giving us fits going through 50 year old parts that haven't been maintained properly the whole time.

Don't worry, you'll get Bev all squared away and make up for those shows you didn't get to.

Thanks, guys! She'll be better on short order.
Guess it's a good sign, really. The amount of times I can look back on and say "thank god no one died" are numerous. That I'm not so willing to risk that these days is likely for the better.

I try to maintain the cars as best as I possibly can. However, is inevitable that with older vehicles the unforeseen is bound to pop up. Take it all in stride, smile, fix the issue and move on. It's part of the charm. And you might make a new friend along the way!!

Like I said, I'd rather be wrenching than dead. That's sorta why I bought her!
