Glad you found the problem.
As for the Pertronix, or any other electronic triggered ignition, they will all tend to retard the timing not advance it.
It takes time for them to to process the trigger signal, charge the coil and then trigger the coil. This time is fixed but the trigger speed goes up with RPM. More crank degrees traveled in 1 millisecond at 6000 RPM than 800 so they can "lose" timing.
