I learned tonight that our van does not have a spare. We lowered the mechanism and it was empty. The van came with a device for inflating a punctured tire. Is it possible that vans with that device dont come with a spare?
Well that's going to make them harder to steal...Nope FCA stopped including a spare on Caravans in 2013 I think. Never got a real explanation as to why but cost comes to mind. Also corrosion of the winch cable has been a problem on other (Toyota) makes. Spares were dropping out from under on the highway etc.
They would probably have had to redesign the rear floor to allow a well to fit the tire which is cost prohibitive I guess.Nope FCA stopped including a spare on Caravans in 2013 I think. 24 years of owning Chrysler mini vans and not once was I able to get the spare out on my own. Release the winch and you needed someone on each side of the van, kicking the tire repeatedly. Always carried a can of fix-a-flat, mini inflator and a tire repair kit.
FYI @2:00 in to the video...
LOL, that's assuming the tire actually drops down. The kicking I was referring to was to free it from being stuck in the up position. Thus the need for road side assistance, or a can of Fix-A-Flat.
The industry in general is dropping them. Cost/weight even liability savings. If you're lucky, you can get it as an option.
Most people don't know what to do with them anyway. A cell phone is the first tool they'll grab to fix a flat.
The spare is between the front seats under the van if equipped with one. They would probably have had to redesign the rear floor to allow a well to fit the tire which is cost prohibitive I guess.
Just remember to pull it out on the side that doesn't have the flat. The spare is between the front seats under the van if equipped with one.
