Okay I've posted about needing new seals for the Speedo pinion to tranny connection point. I got those finally, but now I need help to figure out how the cable disconnects from the housing. The FSM simply says to "carefully " work the pinion and sleeve assembly out the housing, but does it pull straight out? Or does it unscrew? I don't want to force anything so can anyone tell me how this comes out? Thanks

Gotta take the bolt out with the retainer per step 1 of the procedure. Red arrow.

Yup I got that far ... I think it should pull out, but wanna be sure before I start to pry and pull...

Wiggle pull, there is an O ring seal.

Just pulled mine an hour ago.

I got it!
the inner seal... which way does it face?...flat side down towards the direction of the tranny housing, or flat side up towards the cable side aiming away from the housing?

I put the cup side down that way the clip had more to hold. Never looked for specific instructions, always done it that way.

In general, the "open" part of the seal points toward the oil being sealed. The "closed" side goes to the housing side of things.

In MANY cases, the speedo cable has a "flat retainer" that keeps the cable from going further into the housing on the speedometer side of things. Pull from there rather than the bottom. This keeps the upper end from being pushed back into the housing if it does not index correctly with the hex in the speedo housing cable receptacle. Not sure if your model year is set up that way or not.

Just some experiences,

Thanks for the replies..sorry for my confusion, but I'm new to this pinion speedo thing and it's a messy affair putting in these seals. From what I gather from the replies, I'm still not sure which direction I face the inner seal. So I'm posting a picture A and a picture B ...tell me which is right. Thanks for the patience, with me but I don't want to get it wrong.

I'm not familiar with this style.
Looking at the manual it looks like the seal goes in the pinion, I'd put it in as you have it shown in post #8
I can't tell but the clip may hold the gear on the housing or if it just goes to the pinion?
The clip in my kit would not work with this style.

Yes this brings up another point. The Clip. should the inner seal rest on the clip, above the clip indentations, flush with the top of the pinion? or go below the clip and bottom out inside the base of the pinion? If you see the end of my speedo cable in post# 10, it has a stem that protrudes at the end and that end sockets into a small square shape hole inside the pinon at the very bottom. If I place the inner seal up top high on the pinion, above the clip, resting on the clip ends, it wont allow that stem of the cable to reach the bottom of the pinion and go into the square hole ... so am I right in placing that seal inside and at the very base of the pinion first then pushing on the clip?
