SRT 8 Opinions?

'08 is only orange and 25k is too much for a 12 year old car, especially with a economic freefall looming, period.
Buying a car to not drive is the dumbest idea ever, period.
Buying a new car because of the warranty is equally dumb. "I'm going to buy this car because someone gets to determine what gets paid for to fix". Yaaaaaay, another reason to go back to the goddamn dealer, tops on my list of **** I don't want to do.
Challengers should only come in one color and that is black. My opinion, don't care what yours is.

Earlier post mentioned that at 16k. It shouldn't have been abused too bad. If you're serious about that one I would first find out if it was a local trade and if you could contact the previous owner. I guess I'm skeptical about any used performance car and how it was cared for. Color me cautious....

From a Dealer's POV the 2008 model is a 12 year old car and is appraised as such. If FCA never made a 2009 model then maybe it would hold a special car value but in reality it is underpowered and under equipped compared to the current models. We'd give you a dollar for each mile on trade in most likely unfortunately.

It does have the cold air intake mod, which I think is ok. My big question would be, has it been "chipped"? That would be a deal breaker for me. I've been looking at 2006 SRT8 300's, no black, no tint, unfortunately they all seem to have sunroofs. The only mods I would accept would be the cold air intake and oil catch can.

If it's what you want get it BUT!!!!, you're insurance company will only pay you fair market value based on NADA or KBB, whichever is lower if something bad happens. In the current economy I wouldn't offer them more then 17k. They probably paid less for it. 25k, they're hoping for a sucker.

IMO, it's easy to suggestion paying 50k for a new car but you're the one that has to make the payment.

This is KBB if there are no issues that you're not aware of.

There's no way to tell if some yahoo has hooked up a Diablosport (or other handheld tuner) to it, other than going to the dealership- and even then, they can only tell you the last time something was written to the ECM.

I've been waiting for this opportunity to grab that "I'd be Stupid to pass that up" 6 speed.
I'm waiting for truck prices to fall, and I think the old 359 is down the road.
I'm getting tired of chasing old truck parts.
I would like to move up about 20 MY to a 2005

You don't want to do that unless it's a glider. 05 will have EGR and Elog.

A 1999 has no emissions stuff other than some software that can be worked with and is E log exempt. The newest you could get away with and not run afoul of the enviro nazis would be an 03 built before October 2003 with a 99 engine in it. That would still be emissions compliant for the year of the truck (98 standards) and still E log exempt because of the model year of the engine.

Or you could do a frame off restoration on your 359 by plunking the cab and sleeper onto a rolling 2020 389 chassis from a wreck that didn't tear up the frame. Add your favorite flavor of engine power built before model year 2000 with a 13 or 18 from the newer chassis and you will have a shiny new 359 that will always be worth more than a late model. Think of it as a Hemi Ebody 4 speed convertible vs a K car.

In consideration of the fine and many opinions here (along with my hatred of car payments), I am going to keep driving my Fury.

I recalled the whole reason I bought the Fury was to get away from new stuff requiring a computer tech to diagnose it. My last newer vehicle puked its CVT transmission. $3,000.

I really like the new Challengers, but I am going to play it safe.

There is a white 65 Newport in Alabama I want. If I sell my Fury, I will buy it. I have some for sale signs in the window. Pic of the 65 that I would give my left Knut for.

Yeah, I know. The cold air intake is the first sign someone's been doing some "upgrades". Some guys say right in the ad that it's been chipped, like it's an bonus, they did pay for it, and I appreciate their honesty. I'm looking for as stock as possible. Of course, I'll promptly be adding the silver sport tremec six speed. I just want to be the "first" to mess with it.

Yes, I know, I'm on local log/time sheet, yes I know that may not last. I'm looking for something to walk in and spout off my last 6 of my VIN and the counter person looks up my part. Not here is what I have got do you have something to match? At the Peterbilt dealer, give the last six of my VIN and the counter guys shakes his head because he has to guess at what page to look at, microfiche converted to computer. 8 out of 10 times the parts are N/A or the substitute is almost more work to retrofit than gutting it and replacing with new generic system.
Let's face it there is no good solution. They have ruined the trucking industry with regulations after deregulation of rates, all in a effort to control what they had control of prior to the deregulation.
Worst comes to worst I have a 1994 Pete cab and title I can go backwards.
As long as I'm not deleting filters the rest is easy to overcome.
Before the market falls. What's your offer on my old Pete, you won't insult me.

So, in your opinion Graham, are SRT vehicles potential future collectables or just another old car of that vintage???
