My 66 Monaco has the shifter stuck in the park position, the push button is not flush with the top of the shifter, I can see one small screw towards the top, if I undo this can I just pull the top of the shifter off, remove the console and see what's going on?
I did half this problem the other day but managed to wiggle it free.
Thanks Chris

Sounds like the locking rod is jammed or broken in the shifter. You will have to remove the head and console to access the shifter and find out what went bad. Do you have the F.S.M?

Thanks for your reply mate, I think I've fixed the problem
The tiny grub screw needed tightening up and that realeased the shift button, I shall replace the grub screw with a fresh one as I could see traces of thread lock on it and it doesn't seem to tighten up very well
Should the grub stew face to the front or Rear of the car?
What is FSM? The workshop manual.

Sorry, I did not notice you were on the, "other side of the pond" until your reply. The "F.S.M." is the factory service manual. The handle knob should have a notch to keep it in the proper location. What you refer to as a grub screw, we call a set screw and they are easy to strip out. You should also be able to see the proper location as the screw will have made a mark on the shaft.
