My old post timed out so I'm reposting. Looking for cables for a manual sunroof. I've posted on Moparts and FBBO but none of the leads panned out. Anyone have any ideas?

What did they look like? Is this something that perhaps can be made by the Bowden cable manufacturers or the bicycle tech guys - that sort of thing?

That is my next move. I'm going to take them out to see is something can be fabricated. It's a weird cable though. The sheathing is like a sprocket that runs in the gear.

I notice you specified manual sunroof cables, are they for a C body? I thought all C's were power, A's and B's had manual. I've worked on a few C's, the cables were 62 or 63 inches long. Smaller roof, and being manual may mean smaller cables?

What's wrong with yours? I had to dig into mine due to a previous owner snapping the ends off in an effort to open the roof. I lucked out and managed to find some in a junkyard. There is a place in Australia that manufactures new sunroof cables, however they are not cheap.

It's for a B body. 73 Charger. Sorry. Yeah the end is broken off of one of them.

I would bet (and hope for you) the manual Cordoba ones will work. The broken ones in my '71 New Yorker were actually 64 inches total length, my memory was close! The replacements that I found were from a '77 New Yorker, which has a smaller roof and roof opening, yet had the same length cables.

Here's a picture Ross, definitely not your run of the mill cable. Essentially a quarter inch solid spring with a hefty "bicycle" style inner. The spring works as a continuous screw, or incline plane, and the crank or motor has a sprocket that pulls both cables from either side of the insert.

Also, did you move? I seem to recall your past location wasn't Scotland, Ontario.

Hi Chris,

I guess I missed your initial post so I am glad you put another one back up.

I have found that the best source of good used sun roof parts come from Jimmy Boros who has a lot of used parts for Chrysler sunroof cars including B bodies. I just recently was able to acquire one of his good used electric sunroof motors for one of my cars and I believe he might very well have some good used cables that you are seeking.

His contact number is (763) 224-6888

He is up in Minnesota.

Yes - I moved - I have a decent shop now!

It was Chris Sherman (@azblackhemi ) that was interested in the cables, so hopefully he will see the above post.

Cheers!

Congratulations! I hope the new place works for you. And I'm no computer expert by far, but I believe the original poster receives any posts to the thread. I'll try the circle a thing I just figured out. Just went up and saw you beat me to it, cheers!

Thanks Steve but I've already called Jimmy. He gave me a couple of leads but they didn't pan out either.

SGT FURY I do need a cable or two! I tried to PM you but your inbox is full.

I guess I have been booted from Gold membership overnight? Have to clean out inbox. Try to research if they interchange first. It’s a bit of work to tear apart to find out if they don’t.

Check out the Cadillac and Lincoln forums too. These sunroofs were installed by ASC. ACS installed the same sunroof assembly across all manufacturers. They had 3 sizes Large Medium and Small. They used 3 different size cables based on what unit was installed. The Deville, Eldorado, and Mark all had the same size sunroof as the cbody mopars. When i replaced the sunroof cables in my 71 300 the NOS cables i insalled were in a Ford box. They also installed the same sunroof assembly in Mercedes and Rolls Royce.

Thanks! I'm going to take the cables out so I can get a good measurement and go from there.

I thought my body/paint guy had a set but he sold those a couple years ago apparently.
