I find it interesting to see what people say when they hear about someone doing this.
Most people probably haven't done the math.
About 2800 mile not counting stops is about 40 hours following the law (with a overall average of 70 mph).
Their 30 hour average is just over 90 mph.
Probably over 3/4 of the distance is in open country.
I doubt they went 20 over everywhere just in the open country where they would need to keep it above 80 as much as possible which isn't that hard.
Even if they had to do 25% of that at the speed limit they would still only need to average 125 or so for the remainder, again not that bad.
Yes they went a lot faster than that but they didn't say they drove like that the entire distance.
We all drive fast and many of us have driven more than a few miles in the triple digits.
I'd like to give them credit for probably using better judgment in where and how much to drive those speeds.
I'd also guess they timed this to maximize evening runs starting in the early evening and ending in the early morning with 18 hours during the quiet time and 12 hours during the day.
When I heard that the record was only 30 hours or so I was surprised.
