anybody have issues running a simple tach on their C body? At first I thought I had a bad tach but I tried hooking up a known good one from my gremlin and I still cant seem to get a signal. red to power, black to ground, green to neg- side of the coil. I can get it to jump around randomly but I'm stumped. I should mention this 318 has electronic ignition now, not the old points if that were to make a difference. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

Did you try the tach on something else? Your sure it's good? Does it have a 4-6-8 switch on it?

Was going to say the same thing. If it is an MSD system you can not make the connection to the coil. It would have to go to the box but if you are using the Chrysler electronic ignition then how you described it is the way it hooks up. Typically when a tach goes bad it will keep the car from running.

Perhaps you should double (maybe even triple) check the ground? Mine came loose once and the taco meter did exactly the same thing.
