The Car I Will Buy...

Very nice. Assuming it's truly in A1, unrestored pristine condition then I'd say a fair market value is about $12,000 (using current available REASONABLE price guides) BUT I've known several guys with nice old cars who say Oh no way! to the fair price and they bump it up to some over the moon price. I'm all for fair/reasonable prices for old cars but I'm NOT for bloating the prices to unreasonable levels. That seriously threatens our hobby. I've been saying for years that lots of folks who love old cars are being priced out of collecting old cars and that's a damn shame. It's not every average salary fella (me included) who can just plop down mega, out of this world, crazy high dollars on buying his favorite old car. Time was when fellow old car hobbyists bought and sold at prices which kept the hobby available to lots of people. But these days I see prices of $50,000, $100,000 for a 1960s (you name it). Sorry but almost no car is worth THAT much (IMO) and those prices are just driving most folks out of the hobby. Let's boycott price gouging in our hobby or face that only the "elite" and wealthy foreign investors will buy our old cars, ending the hobby as we knew it.

Found a bit more info on this one. The fellow has had it for 46 years along with a few other collector cars. He is now suffering from the onset of Alzheimer's and his wife is taking steps to liquidate some of these holdings. I am trying to get contact info and make my interest known. No idea what the asking price might be.

I almost never laugh here

I have my doubts that you ever laugh Dave. What type of humor or funny man is your bag anyway?

btw funny doesn't only mean out loud laughter, some people appreciate more subtle humor that makes you smile and think a little as well as belly laughs.

You suffer from the same inability to believe today's prices as I do. Well maybe not as bad as me since I have 17 more years to consider. When I was a kid, every Saturday all the kids went to the Saturday afternoon matinee. The cost was 25 cents. My grand-kids tell me they don't have Saturday matinee's anymore, but a regular priced show is $11. Can you believe it! For years a cup of coffee was a dime, today people happily pay $5. Not this cowboy.

I found it interesting to play with an inflation calculator to see how things have changed over the years. I used 1969, the year I bought my Fury as a base and used Stat-Can for Canadian inflation. My Fury cost $6060 in Sept 1969, today in Canada it should be about $39,950, in the UK it would be $89,975 and in the US about $39,125.

So it's not hard to see why your $12,000 maybe unrealistic and it's not hard to see why people in the UK ad Europe are busy buying all the cars they can at what to them are bargain basement prices. Ponder this while you drink your $5 coffee or make a sandwich using $5 a loaf bread that bought on sale. My youngest daughter and one of her friends went to the movies and then to a burger joint, she complained that parking, movie and food came to $83 for the two of them. No, she didn't buy silly stuff, she's 38.

That Fury is gorgeous and will most likely be taking a sea cruise in the near future.

Bill you are really gonna hate paying $68000 to replace that beautiful carefully driven Grand Cherokee of yours then....BTW I ordered you a Red one....:)

beautiful carefully driven Grand Cherokee
Depends on the trade in value. Actually I'm sitting in the grass waiting for a vehicle that has 360 camera coverage, beeps at me when I'm backing in a parking lot and I get too close. I also like the front radar which will keep me from running up someone's butt and has side radar to warn of people in my blind spots. In other words all the creature comforts and all the safety features. I figure why not, it will probably the last new car I'll own so whatever I buy better have "the works". Almost forgot, must have a Hemi.

Sounds like what you really want is the new Pacifica with a Hemi....ill ask Sergio to make you one next time he stops by for coffee...:)

But the new Pacifica is so cotton pickin' UGLY. I was in the dealership the other day with time to kill so I looked 'em over - look like a nice ride except for the visual aesthetic. I don't know if I could overcome that, maybe it's good that I don't have a need for something of that nature.

A follow-up 4 years later: I never was able to get into contact with him or his wife. But today I spotted this in traffic being driven right behind me by a fellow of middle-age, certainly not the owner who had it 4 years ago. Either a family member or more likely, in the hands of a new owner. Still looked lovely.
