a bit higher than i wanted but i was determined to have it - with Stan's counsel to follow .. to stop the flipping and try to see if any semblance of the original vision for the car could be resurrected. then, when I am Scenicrusin" (i.e., retired) let a true aficionado become the next caretaker/make it better.
heck, you saw it/rode in it. people havent been as nice to it over the years as I would have hoped. could have been "rode hard, put away wet" on occasion

I had a guy come look at a 426 Hemi I had listed for a very fair price, I out in the ad no less than 4 times that my price was firm...
The guy decided to offer me approx 25% of what I was asking, because it was "cash"
He didn't like when I turned him around, marched him out of my garage and to his truck on the street and ever so kindly told him where to go, how to get there....
A legitimate buyer won't screw around and a legitimate seller won't either, a few months later another buyer out west contacted me, made me a fair offer, and arranged everything to get it picked up and to his shop.

Which is why the asking price is always factored up enough to allow for that. Everybody can play the game and be happy with the result.
Of course, the elevated asking price can result from a "used car mentality". "Where you gonna find another one like that?" Implying that rarity = higher price.
BUT we also probably know that the car "has been used" due to ite equipment combination. Everybody probably had to seek their vision of massive tire smoke (and hopefully NOT clutch smells!). A rarity that needs some expensive work does not deserve an elevated price, no matter what, UNLESS it's something you absolutely want and all of that.
It needs a good, appreciative home (and the hood scoops removed).

It all depends, that used the be my standard opening offer, and it worked quite well. It got the seller to go to their rock bottom price quicker. I simply asked if they would take 50%, and went from there. Only those who wanted good for their time, were offended. Another reason why I did that, is because that's usually all the money I had and could get, so it was worth a shot.

1 of 50 is pretty darn rare. My concern especially now after reading some posts is how many people it has been through and what shape it's in currently. I've been on the fence about this one a while but didn't think it was truly a factory 4sp manual car...

I never care about offending someone with a low offer. I feel it does show where the seller is. My experiences have taught me I'm never going to see the seller again so EF his feelings i care about my wallet more.
If your feelings are hurt because of an offer, go put your big boy pants on and try again.
