Alrighty I will throw in my personal view on how to paint the Hurst again too. All gloss black with the "Hurst gold" areas done in matt black. ;)

I like the black & gold one in the pic, but I also like your idea too. You know what's going to happen though. Somebody is going to be thinking to themselves, if black is alright, then why not red & gold?

.....and so on.

:)

New to the forum. Such good info here. Yes, a black 300H would look quite spiffy!

That'd look just right with a pimp hat and maybe some platform shoes with goldfish in the sole.

Painting a 1/2 decent 300 Hurst anything but its original colors is absurd.
The paint scheme is a major component of it being a 300 Hurst.

I did say in some other thread about the black & gold 300-H in the pic, that they should have made the black & gold color scheme an option for these cars.

I was thinking about the Warlocks when I mentioned the possibility of some people painting their Hursts other colors. The first Warlocks were black, but other colors later became available.
th

Of course white was the only color available for the Hursts, so, in order to be a restoration or a true representation, it has to be white. However, there is nothing stopping anyone from painting a regular 300 or even a Newport, for that matter, using a Hurst paint scheme in some other colors.

Just my thoughts on the subject. :)

Thanks for all the cool feedback on the Hurst-paint-thing. I really enjoying the reading !

I think I'd have to go with the black / matt black, and white interior.. but I'd definitely keep the original 70' bucket seat style, and generally not change all that much else.. Keep all chrome / Stainless / Alu-moldings.. And I really like what I visualize!

I saw a 1970 Imp with the same white leather bucket interior once, on eBay. It looked GREAT. I've never seen any other colors than Black / White / and of course TAN TAN TAN TAN...

If anyone has pic's of these '70 buckets, in other colors, I would LOVE to see them! The white Imp was on FeeBay maybe 7-8 years ago.. Until that day, I thought these seats were only available in the Hurst's! The start price was abt 1500, and it never got any bids. I fear what happened to it.

I was totally fixed on 300's then, so I didn't want to bid.. The car looked a little sad, (sorta like the T3 Imp, but cleaner, and with out the barn-theme).. and the interior was WHITE, and complete.

@Stan ~ About the the absurdity of painting a half decent Hurst black.. may I ask why you think it's absurd? I respect your opinion, as I shared it once (an part of me still do), but it made me sell the car I loved, because I didn't like the colors all that much.. (especially disliked the tan interior). I thought at that point, that the 300H was really REALLY RARE, and wouldn't DREAM of painting it then, but at the same time, I hated to let it go..

The reason I softened up a lot since is, that there seems to be many around. I think there is even 4 right here in tiny little Denmark and with the rate they keep popping up here on FCBO, I begin to wonder if they made 485, or 4850. Another thing is, that they are all painted the same way, which somehow seem to make them LESS rare, than most (all?) colors of a standard 300.. and unlike the standard 300, NOBODY thinks of painting a real one any other color, so they are regarded much more "conservation worthy".

I played around with the paint-thought then, but decided to sell to let someone else enjoy the tan interior. (And fix the rust)

Now, the same car is available. Work has been done to it since, that makes it even less original than when I owned it.. and it's right here.. tax paid, license plates on, ready to drive
(and maybe paint :).

Now I am embarrassed.
That is the exact reason I stated behind the 4 speed car.
I see clearly now.
How do you feel about silver/black on your car.
Timeless.

Wow.. I am glad to hear Stan.. Painting classics in "wrong" colors is complicated..

I must have missed that "4 speed thread", and would like to read (if it's a thread at all?).. The Roll's looks absolutely stunning... is that the "4-speed" in question? That image immediately put a new spin on my color thoughts. I think the black / silver looks even better than the black / gold, and now.. a "Black / Matt black / Silver" solution is now brewing. I think I will go and inspect the Hurst soon.

:-D
