The price might be wrong.......

If this car is in your budget you should book the flight.

I not only want the car but the adventure of flying in and driving it across the country is something I have spent some time thinking about.

Yup sight unseen (4 pictures, 3 questions) I was on a plane to Butte Montana and drove the car 1400 miles home. Great adventure, no car is too far you just need to factor the travel into the price but the adventure is worth half of that.

One day I am going to fly to one of these places once a conditional deal is reached on phone and drive a car like this home, that is a item on my bucket list.

Did something similar several years ago. Found a '73 Ranchero in Phoenix on Epay. Wife and I flew out from Corpus Christi, got a bottle of wine and hotel room, met the guy next morning, kicked the tires, blew the horn, gassed 'er up and drove it home. 1200 miles. My father-in-law thought I was crazy...it was a cool trip.

I need to hear the 3 questions!

1. Is the car highway worthy?"
Yes, its not a hotrod"
Understood.
2. Should the car be ok on a 1400 mile drive to California?
"Yes, it is an old car, no guarantees”
Understood, I have old cars and come to expect the unexpected.
3. Will you pick me up at the airport?
“Butte?”
Yes.

That is the most WTF Love at First Sight story I have heard in a long time. Nice to know that still happens.

A green four door sedan at that. Never in a million years..........

The color was irrelevant, it was going to become Black & White.

That was in 2009 and just one link that lead me to getting the CHP car.

April 2009 I make the decision to pursue a CHP car.
September 2009 I see this on Craigslist, $2000 (no pictures)
October 2009 I take my first trip to Europe, (not really relevant other than why I waited)
November 2009 I request pictures, get these 4, I try calling, no answer, repeat.
November 2009 make contact, get car. Part of the rush was the impending weather, snow storm was imminent. Make it home ahead of the storm, barely.
December 2009 contact a well known authority Ron Hurwitz on 69 CHP cars.
January 2010, meet with him for the first time.
April 2010 he hears of a genuine CHP 69 Polara and tells me.
May 2010 I look at the car.
August 2010 I acquire the car.

Had I not been as impulsive to get the car it may not been till April that I might have been willing to drive it home. That being said I wouldn’t have had this car with the idea of doing a clone and not looked up Ron. Had I not done that I would not have been the first person he thought about when he learned of the genuine unit. Ron is a great friend of mine now and talk about timing.

Did you leave the car finally as is with the original Police car in posession or what happened to it ?

I still have it, it is my daily driver. Soon as I got the CHP car all bodywork froze on this car, I had already replaced both of the rear lower quarters (inner and outer) and was starting on the lower passenger side fender. Once I had the CHP car I chose to remove all the trim studs on this one as I didn't want to put the trim back on. Once I'm not spending money on the CHP car I plan to start on this one.

I have a thread here on the car "The other Polara"

and more on my website... http://www.MrMopar.com/1969Polara/
