Yeah Paul did have it forsale, but ended up deciding to keep it for now, he was gonna sell it and buy another project now that he retired from the force last spring, but ended up saying screw it and just bought a project and kept the Caravelle, he bought a 54 M37 Power Wagon to tinker with.
I like the Gran Fury/Diplomat shown above, lets have a story about it please.
I'm. I'm with Pete. Please!
Ask and you shall receive.
I met Paul in 2013 when I sold him tge 79 360 that was in my convertible when I bought it.
I didn't know then that I would end up with one of the best friends a guy could have..
(honestly, a lot of my stories of how I met my close friends start with me selling them something or buying something off them)
But you guys probably would like to know about the Mighty M body...
First off it's Canadian, its a 1985 Plymouth Caravelle Salon AHB.
Paul originally bought it in around 2000 or so off teacher who had advertised it as needing a transmission, turns out the shop working on the car were screwing the guy over as Paul found the kickdown not hooked up...
The teacher had bought it from the auction as it was a Metro unmarked. Paul started with Metro in 1984, just before the '85 change over to white cruisers.
Paul previously had a 5th Ave that he really liked, but had succumbed to rust.
The original plan for this car was to put a 340 in it, which Paul did, after finding one that had been living in a Cuda that he happened to chase down one night on duty, turns out the guy had just put a 360 in his car because he spun a rod in the 340 he had in it before... Paul ended up buying that 340 and rebuilding it, it ended up in this car..
To cut to the chase, since then, it's continued to evolve as Paul has been bored, every winter brought on a new project.... Since I've known Paul I've been his extra hands to work through it.
In the time I've been helping Paul, we've converted the brakes to Wilwood Electronic power brakes as the cam in the 360 (371) doesn't produce enough vacuum.
We converted it to an electric fuel pump.
Put powder coated rims with 235/60R15 M/T Sportsman tires on it in place of the 225/65R15s Paul had on it.
Made a set of 80s mustang power bucket seats work so they are adjustable.
Converted it to Fi-tech.
But basically it's a Tremec T-10 5 speed from a 00 trans am.
F body clutch pedals, manual trans steering column and assorted parts.
The 8.25 rear has been rebuilt, it has strange axles, Auburn locker with 3.55's, etc.
Springs have been redone, ISO delete with B body plates and shocks.
Custom driveshaft, poly urethane everything up front, firm feel steering box, firm feel welded the K frame.
R/B large front rotor conversion, braided brake hoses, stainless fuel lines, long tube headers with stainless 2.5" duals.
The 360 is punched to 371, edelbrock heads, etc etc no expense spared.
When Paul did the body it was repainted the original colour, he had all the trim stripped and reanodized.
Bumpers are NOS, some of the trim is NOS. Etc.
I've been in a lot of fast cars, including the 9 second all steel roadrunner in the background, but this Caravelle is one of the absolute fastest God damn cars I've ever been in, it just permanently glues a goofy grin on your face.
It did two things to me, it lead to my wanting an M body (which I now have) and wanting to convert a car to a stick (which I'm going to be doing).
Here's some more pictures from over the years
