Timing Cover Scored Out

Hi Everyone,
So here is a good one.I I'm changing the timing chain on big BigSexy. Whomever was in this vehicle prior to me was quite the hack, cuz I have found many amazing works.
Anyway, I bought a spare timing cover, as one of the bolts was seized, and I was afraid of breaking the original cover.
Anyway, I got the original cover off, and this is what I found.
Looks like at one time some person installed the wrong water pump....

My bet is an impeller tried to come off the shaft or some sort of bearing failure that let the impeller walk back into the housing.
