Haven't found any yet...hoped someone had found some recently. Coker hhas some but are crazy priced with huge white walls...need some like Cooper or brand name Uniroyal or the like...

225/75-14 has been discontinued for close to 10 years now. Most people are using 215/75-14 or 225/70-14 instead. Only other choice is to switch to 15" rims, where 225/70-15 would have the same outside diameter as 225/75-14.

At least five years ago, Diamondback Tires claimed that they were working on producing a 225/75-14 tire, but so far nothing has come of it, and I don't think there's any mention of it on their website anymore.

Unfortunately, they will look small. The 215's are close to the size that came stock on Newports, though they were 78's, not 75's, so they were a bit taller, but had a very narrow tread.

i am going to stop saturday and see what they tell me

They will tell you "no dice".

Cooper was the last game in town for 225/75-14, and now they don't even make a 225/75-15 white wall, only blackwall for old pickup trucks.

I hope you prove me wrong, but I'm pretty certain you won't. I've gone over this a million times looking for tires.

Got to be at Charlotte speedway Sat morning so I'll have to put 215's on tomorrow but not too thrilled about that. The 225's look like new but are way old so no choice car is original 26k survivor like new can't justify taking a chance on old tires.

Good plan. A blown tire can do a lot of damage to the body. The 225's are likely to be 15-20 years old, and probably Coopers: Cooper, Mastercraft, Eldorado, Dean, Cordovan, Futura, etc. Absolutely not trustworthy for any trip exceeding 45mph.

I'm running hankook optimo h724 215/75R14s on my 66 Polara. 70,000 mile tread rating.

The other problem I encountered was rim width. The original Monaco 14" rims were only 5.5" wide. Most tires out there recommend at least a 6" wheel width and no real tire dealer would mount a tire on the narrower rim.

The Hankook H724 is about the only available, reasonably priced, option. One of our CA members had them on his '65 convertible. Claims they work great . . . P215/75R-14 white wall.

The old Cooper Trendsetter SE used to have a P225/75R-14 whitewall that was a very good match for the prior 8.55x14 OEM tires on '65-'68 C-body cars. It went away a good while ago. Latest to the game are the Korean brands, unless you want the $1K price tag for a set of repros?

The std wheel rim was 14x5.5. Some years of station wagons were 14x6.5" So from what I've seen 14x6 is kind of an outlier of sorts. You probably can't tell the difference in handling with a 14x5.5 and 14x6 wheel, I suspect. I found a '65 T&C and got the wheels off of it for my '67 Newport CE23. With some then-NOS 245/70R-14 BFG Advantage TA whitewalls. Same diameter as the old H78x14 size.

After the middle '60s, all tires got wider and we've become a bit jaded in getting used to seeing them, that we've forgotten just how narrow-treated the OEM tires on the '65-era cars were. The old Cooper Trendsetter SE spec'd their tread width at about 5" or so, as I recall. The old rule of thumb used to be that the tread width should be plus/minus 1" from the rim width.

In the spec sheets, there will be a "recommended rim width RANGE". The sizing specs (width, revs/mile, etc.) are usually made on a particular rim width (6"?), which affects ultimate mounted section width of the tire.

Use TireRack for your resource. Many local tire dealers have access into the same brands, so do your own research then then see if they can get the same tires for you. Don't quibble about price unless it's way off. But let them do their best deal first.

In some brands, even the P225/75R-15 size is getting thin on coverage, unless you want a "SUV" tire.

But it appears the H724 is probably the best bet for now in 14" whitewalls.

Enjoy!

I put the H724 tires on today...driving in the morning . They look good hopefully they will drive good. Thks for the info didn't realize it would be so complicated to get tires. Checked date code on the old ones it looked like they were over 30 yrs old. Glad I got them off....thks again to all who added thoughts about the issue of these tires.

i stopped at that tire store today and they have 12 cooper trendsetters in stock. the one they pulled out to show me was made in 21/02. $100 for 4 of them.
