Anybody got a spare hitch lying around that'll fit a 1978 New Yorker Brougham? Uhaul will make me a free one but the waiting list is 13 months.
I have been kicking this around, I am interested in purchasing a bolt on hitch I could use with a Formal. Don't worry, I have discovered my Haggerty policy will self destruct if I put it on one of the Twins. The pretty cars are safe.I got one welded up and installed locally for $400.

This would really be used to pull a small uhaul trailer when useful, I am good with anything original or aftermarket that bolts on, my NYB has a welded on heavy duty one... love it except for the welded thing.
My preference is a 2" receiver or a built in mount... I don't really want to buy 1 1/4" mount, but may if that's what shows. Bigger is better, but all I really need is 2000lbs rating.
I would be keen on an old clamp on bar, but a bigger one... not the little ones.
Nalambright, if you are willing to share who built yours and think they still have patterns, that might be perfect. If it's a weld on, not so much. I could go through the fabrication deal here, but it would be a lot of work building it to an Imperial and then installing it on something else.
No I haven't locked up a something else car, but I'm thinking hard about it. If a decent hitch surfaced, I would buy it just to have it ready.
Thanks. I am very interested in your bolt on hitch. I will be watching the Uhaul thing, I suspected it to be a sham and they just hoped you would get bored waiting and give up. Uhaul made hitches when the cars were new, the only reason I can fathom if they come through on this would be to inspect the structure of your car and assure no rot or poor repairs are there.I'm still on the uhaul waiting list for a free hitch. If they hold up their end of the bargain, I'll sell you my bolt-on hitch. Its fully welded but bolts on via the bumper mount bolts and two other mount tabs further under the can. I need to touch base with them and see where I am on the wait list. Uhaul will also keep the patterns so they can duplicate the one they build for me.
Thank youI have a direct bolt on hitch on my parts car out back. Its a name brand like draw tite or reese if anyone is interested
