Since the duck sat for over 30 years I thought it would be a good idea and since I've got the new radiator there is no reason to pump old fluid into the cooler. I was talking to two the guys I work with that have cars they run a the strip from time to time. One is a Ford guy while the other is a GM guy. They recommended using Type F instead of straight ATF. One of them said it would improve the shifts.

What are your thoughts? Which would you use? I'll probably never run it very hard. The car has either 51k or 151k on it, she was parked around 1980.

Thanks

Your green New Yorker is a beauty! You might get slightly harder shifts with the type F fluid but since you're not planning on driving it hard, i'd just leave it the way it's supposed to be and use regular ATF

I had it explained to me by Bill Hancock when he was at Chrysler.

Type F has more friction modifiers in the fluid. It doesn't slip as much as it shifts and gives a firmer shift. All else is the same. He went on to give examples in a southern accent about "Momma's Imperial". It was pretty memorable.

When I changed my filter last year I refilled with Valvoline ATF+4. No issues. I recommend the ATF+4.

Now you have me concerned about my filter. I think they gave me the single port for my 65'.

I have always used type F, bought a ton of it when stores started clearancing it. I'm sure the other fluids mentioned are also good, but they are pricey.

Never had an issue using type F in old Mopars and I've been doing it for 20+ years.

I have had Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid in a 65 727 for years with no issues..
