the trip meter on my 68 New Yorker does not work properly. I can reset it and it will not flip over to 10, it will keep rolling on 9.9 miles. SOMETIMES it will go to 19.9 miles but will not flip over to 20.
I would like to fix this but I am not sure what I am looking for as far as a cause.
on a side not, my speedo was reading low with the stock speedo gear. i changed the gear to make it right but I feel like it was a band-aid for another situation that was going on.
any idea"s

It might be that the internals of the trip odometer drum, which turns the numbers, has worn or is gummed-up. In any event, the speedometer assy will need to be removed and sent to a repair station.

On our '66 Newport, sometimes the trip odo would hang, which would cause the speedo needle to start to read slower. Then it'd CLICK, the needle would jump, and everything would be fine for a long time.

On our car, the adjustment knob will turn both ways. One way works well to turn things backward as the other way does not work too good to reset the trip odometer.

Just some thoughts,
