After sending two plaid mats back, (they claimed they were correct), I was able to get a herringbone mat for my 67 from collectors supply. It took awhile to get one for a convertible. Made by REM.

well great . when i was doing mine that was not a option what i wamted is what i had oin my 73 polara but it wASNT BIG ENOUGH to ft

Here's a pic of the largest pieces left in my 66 300. It's oversized and tucks under the cardboard side panels and up over the axle hump. Definitely "carpet like" texture but the edges are smooth where it tucks in.

Our '66 Newport is similar. After a while,it became rock hard and brittle, being rubberized with a faux carpet texture. Now, to move it is to destroy it, so it's where it is.

Possibly the '66 NY had carpet? Have to check www.hamtramck-historical.com for standard equipment listings, I guess.

My '67 Newport is a thinner vinyl mat, but still fragile at this time. Kind of similar to what's in the '72 Newport Royal.

I was going down this path but the cheapskate in me made my stop at the fabric store and found some heavy hounds tooth plaid upholstery fabric for cheap. Something like this. A yard is about perfect. Something like this. The cheapskate reasoned that the spare will cover half of it anyway and the fabric will breath better. Looking at this thread I'm getting a little mad at that guy. Probably start my meds again

65 Polara 500, and I think I remember all my others (65's) having started out with this pattern.

I have a '65 Ply Sport Fury and mine looked like yours. I went with that pattern as a replacement. My original was dry rotted to the point of being too brittle to touch. I agree with what was posted as well that this was most likely a selection by the dealer at the time they did final 'assembly' of the smaller stuff on the car. It makes sense that the car would not roll out of the factory with the matt installed.

My car also had a tire cover made with the matt material as well... but I think this was done by the dealer. Unfortunately, I couldn't save it and had to toss it. I just came to pieces every time I moved it. I have a few pieces still and can take a pic, but it's just like yours anyway.

The new matt looks good and as far as I'm concerned, does the job just fine.

Finally received my new trunk mat.
It has the right pattern for a ‘68 Polara. For now I just put it over my other one. Maybe even more sound deadening. Maybe sell my slightly used one someday if someone needs it.

Wish I'd known about your willingness to sell before I bought mine! Oh well... I got a nice new plaid vinyl one for our '66 Newport which will do us a little better than the cardboard I had been using. Yours looks good!

I bought a gray cross hatched vinyl mat for Mathilda a couple yrs ago that looks rather like old pics of dealer rides. At present, for the ragtop, I copped 2 black rubber mats, 1 for the trunk, 1 for the well. Both are about 1/8" thick and should wear well for now.... Once I get the proper top INSTALLED to the convertible frame, I'll look for upgrades.

I just found this, and thank you for mentioning my rescue thread. Man if I knew you were gonna put it here, I would of cleaned it up a bit before I thrown it out
