Im converting my 71 New Yorker to the remote trunk release system. I have a remote trunk relase mechanism with associated vacuum hoses and switch which fits in the glove box. I do not have the vacuum canister for this system.

Does anyone have a picture of the vacuum canister and where its located? Does anyone have the vacuum hose diagram for this system?

Also, does anyone have one of these canisters for sale?

I can't get a picture of mine right now as it's still bundled up from winter storage.

It's located on the right front fender, right about where I've circled. The cannister tucks under the fender lip, with the bottom of the tin can toward the right. If you mount it correctly, you can't see it if you are looking straight down.

I think they are available in reproduction, but I don't know as they all have the correct bracket. They used those Trico cannisters in GM and Ford cars too.

I think this is the correct one, but let's see if someone else knows for sure. 1968 Chrysler Imperial Trico Vacuum Tank Can Canister P-85595-43 Used Orig 68 | eBay In looking for an example, I saw some for Ford use that looked the same. It wouldn't be the first time that Ford stuff was a direct interchange. If it's used in a Mustang for example, there's a better chance of a reproduction.

FSM has a diagram (or at least a my 70 FSM has) 23-50 in the '70 FSM, so should be around the same area in the '71 FSM.

This shows the cannister mounting too, although not real clear.

I have been trying to figure this system out too. The canisters are the same as used on various B bodies but the mounting brackets are in a different spot. Here is a picture of the canister and its orientation in a Hurst 300 which should be the same as other fuselage Chryslers.

The problem with most of the ones you find out there is the mounting ears are different. I hate to say it but you might be looking for a C-Body specific part.

You would think after tearing down 2 different cars I'd have better pictures.

Looks like the eBay cannister I linked was for a different car. The brackets are 180° apart on that one. I'll bet one bracket could be moved and it wouldn't surprise me if the brackets were soldered on rather than spot welded.

Correct, that one would not mount unless you moved one of the brackets.

Even if you drilled a new hole in the fender the can would hit the top of the fender.

That is a good picture of what the other side looks like.
