Trying to install the rear seat for a 1972 polara

I already got the lower seat done but Im not sure how the back rest is supposed to go. Does the prong for in front of behind the sheetmetal insert?

you put the seat back in before the bottom

As said, seat back in first, the "prong" (as you call it) goes in front of the floor bracket and is bolted to it. Then the seat bottom goes back in.
