I was thinking of getting Road Wheels for my 69 Fury. I'm a bit of a stickler for originality. I'm aware that the wheels offered for the 1969 Fury were recalled. I know they are out there but are costly and unsafe. My curiosity is, when the car came in for the recall, what was the replacement wheel? Poking around on The Old Car Manual Project, I notice the Canadian brochure lists a different Road Wheel than the US brochure. What are anyone's thoughts?

The "Performance 15" wheel cover is the one in the top set of images, the one in the lower, right corner of that picture.

Never really knew what it was until I looked in the Dealer Data Book at www.hamtramck-historical.com (page F-18). "Available on All Furys", it noted. The other '69 Fury wheel covers, I have seen before.

The "recall wheels" were the original W23 option code, described as "Aluminum center" wheels. The 1970 W23s were described "16 Slot Road Wheels", as I recall.

Hope this helps,

this type of road wheel was not offered in 69, 1970 was the 1st year in Canada and the US
I agree about THAT style Road Wheel. If you look at the text, it refers to the wheels shown as "Road Wheels". That is why I used that terminology. I always knew the wheel listed in the Canadian catalog as Magnum 500 wheels and only recall them on B body cars. I've learned a lot on this site and am trying to piece it all together.

So, I googled "Magnum 500 wheel" and this is what I came up with. My point is, if I put these on my 1969 Fury, is it a wheel that was offered by Chrysler on a 1969 Fury? Oddly enough, I have a set of the "Sport" wheel covers. They are currently under my deck (along with many other wheel covers) for a long time. They were in the trunk of an Oldsmobile that I pulled the engine from in 1995. And, what does anyone know about the "performance" wheel cover? Has anyone ever seen them?

From that article:

"Initially, the wheels were 14×5-1/2-inch for B-bodies and 14×6-inch for C-bodies. For 1967-68, the sales code for the wheels was 580. The sales code changed to W21 in 1969, and the wheels were 14×5-1/2-inch and available on B-bodies only.

Again, Chrysler changed the code, this time to W23, used from 1970 through the late ‘70s for 14×5-1/2-inch and 14×6-inch wheels on B-, E-, and F-bodies. Regardless of the sales code, the wheels were all 14-inch designs, and Chrysler never called any of them Magnum 500s."

I guess I answered my own question regarding the wheels. However, what about those in the Canadian catalog?

After looking at the Jan 71 edition of the 68-69 parts catalog, this is my conclusion:
Seems to be only regular wheels. The "Magnum 500" wheel only shows for B body car. The "performance" wheel cover is referred to as "Class III with 5 embossments" The illustration shows it broken down into a few parts, but all seem to be serviced as 1 part number. The illustration lists P/N 2944076, but the text lists it as P/N 2944398.

Just for the record, all aluminum wheels loose torque after initial tightening. There wasn't anything special about the lug surface. After noticing the issue at the Proving Grounds and out of an abundance of caution, engineering made the decision to recall the wheels. Chrysler would wait 10 more years to offer an aluminum rim on the '79 Cordoba... Probably after watching from the sidelines to see if anyone else had a disaster.

I can't help with the pricing on remaining sets. It astounds me that the repops didn't sell better.

I'll just toss this out there. For 1965 Chryslers and upcoming 1966 Chryslers. Sorry... Best copy of this I've seen and I don't know much more about it.

This is probably the first time that "Magnum 500" style "chrome wheels" were offered on C-body Chryslers. "Magnum 500" was the model name for the then-new chrome spoke wheels sold by Motor Wheel Corporation. Chrysler termed it "Chrome", from what I found in the parts and sales books today. Usually in 14x5.5" wheel size, although 14x6.0" wheel size was allegedly C-body only.

Enjoy!
