Hi all,

My engine started ticking low in the back of the passenger’s side, so I pulled the valve cover off on that side to check it out (not an engine guy, so I honestly have no clue what I’m looking for).
Anyhow, purchased a new valve cover gasket so I can put everything back together, but I can’t find the grommets that go in the holes with the bolts when I fasten it back down. I’ve searched online, and every local auto parts store, but not having any luck.
The engine is a 400, but I found the right gasket by looking up ones for a 440. Any suggestions where to look for the right grommets?
(Side note: had a guy at one of the stores suggest using heat shrink tubing since that what his “Mopar friends” use, and another suggest rubber washers)

Just bolts, no washers, no grommets, just the bolts.

Head/Gasket/Cover and then the bolts.

If this makes no since then I have no clue what you are talking about.

This makes sense. I guess I assumed (yes, I know..) that there were grommets in with the bolts because when I started peeling the gasket out, there was rubber inside the bolt holes.
Thanks for the reply!

The only grommets might be around the plug wires, but by that time the plug wires directly snapped into the plastic holder/loom items.

If there was any rubber around the holes in the valve cover, it could have been that it was originally part of the valve cover gasket that got squished into the hole when the cover was tightened down.

383, 400, and 440 valve covers all have the same gaskets.
