Verizon outage today

So, I tried calling a friend today and the call would not go through. I noticed my phone was in SOS mode. I tried figuring out why and decided to go to the Verizon store. The lot was packed with cars. As I pulled into a spot and exited my car, a guy said, it's not your phone, Verizon is DOWN! I felt like it was 1977. I had an event to go to, and my Wife was nervous about my "not having a phone". I took my job phone because that is AT&T and was working. Miraculously....I survived lol. HOW DID WE SURVIVE YEARS AGO WITHOUT OUR PHONES?!!!

This was being reported as of 1 pm today:

Downdetector, the website that tracks real-time outages and service disruptions across the internet, reported moments ago that users of Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon Fios, and U.S. Cellular are experiencing disruptions and outages that began within the last hour.

At a more granular level of the Verizon outage, reports indicate that outages and disruptions are being logged across the Washington-Baltimore region, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, and areas near Seattle.

Fortunately, service was back around 2007 hours. All of a sudden, my phone started "pinging" with texts!
