Vibrations in drive shaft

This spring I did notice vibrations in the drive shaft/axlwe when accelerating. When cars run at a steady speed, most of the vibrations disapear.

I I got it right, Imoerials, like my 1969, hade a different kind of axle compared to the regular Chryslers.

What shuld i check, could it be the universal joints/cardan joints? Im not shure joints is the correct word for that part.
 
Yes check the u-joints for slop or damage. Also if your rear springs are really sagging the pinion angel can change and cause a vibration. Also check you motor and transmission mounts I have seen a rear trans mount fail and cause a vibration that I thought was a driveshaft issue.

There's only 2 possible axles. The 9 1/4 and the 8 3/4. I believe that the Imperials had the 8 3/4 just like the Chryslers, with some possible exceptions. It's easy to check... Just look under the car!

Your driveshaft, on the other hand, will have double cardon joints at the front and rear. Unless it's an obvious failure, you'll probably have to remove the driveshaft to check it. Here's the one out of my '65 Chrysler and you can see the spots where it catches. The movement should be smooth.

Driveshaft was the right word! I did some search at the internet and found joint 92869MY (For 1965-1973 Chrysler Imperial Universal Joint 92869MY 1966 1967 1968 1969 1970 | eBay). Theese joints seems to be used by Imperial and New Yorker but not the cheaper Chryslers, 300 etc.

Some joints are greasable, I supposte the live longer if I grease them.

I have to sheck how many that needs to be replaced.

That eBay ad kind of made me curious. First thing was the price was about double the usual. Feedback rating is kind of low too. I know that you never want to depend on the applications listed on any eBay listing. A rule to live by is Never trust eBay to see if it fits your car.... They are very often wrong.

So, I looked up the part number and a SKF 92869MY doesn't seem to exist. I know that the #1330 u-joint fits that double cardon on the driveshaft on my Chrysler 300L and a quick look in the Chrysler parts book shows the same Chrysler part number for the Imperial # 2533202.

So, unless you want to spend double and probably get the wrong part, I'd suggest finding another source. If you want an SKF u-joint, SKF UJ270 being the heavy duty greasable version and SKF UJ254 being the heavy duty non-greasable version. Moog has similar part numbers (no UJ prefix).

IMHO, I don't know as the greasable lasts any longer. We had a debate on that in one of the threads and I think it's personal preference.

Quite frankly, the #1330 u-joint is used in a lot of vehicles, including trucks. It would not surprise me at all if you searched around and found a local shop that can get you those u-joints without importing them. #1330 is the generic part number and you use that to cross over to manufacture's part number. BTW, if you are going to replace one, replace all four.

But!!! Double check that you have the double cardon driveshaft before doing anything. Stuff gets swapped around and back when these cars were just used cars, the cheapest way to repair usually won. You never really know until you look.

Great @Big_John I just used the Ebay link for reference, I know how wrong it can I will buy the joints here in Sweden (SKF is a company that started here many hears ago).

I check whats under car :)

WISE WORDS BIG JOHN! As a heavy eBay buyer, I can't agree with nor praise you more for that bit of cautionary advice.
