To me, that was the start of the end of NASCAR for me.
Cars were further and further away from stock. SMALL BLOCKS Fer crisesakes...
That was it for me....

Stan for me the beginning of the end was the V6 front wheel drive cars. The late 80's into the 90's. LeSabres, regals, Taurses, etc. converted to RWD & a race V8 installed. Still the cars looked very close to stock. Did you notice all the empty seats at the Brickyard race 2 weeks ago.

And he drove the legandary K&K insurance Dodge. This was the last Dodge Buddy drove. He left this team in favor of Bud Moores Cleveland powered Ford when the small blocks came in. Dave Marcus replaced Buddy in the #71

New Englands Pete Hamilton

No relation to Tennesse's Bobby Hamilton. Pete drove a varity of good Mopar's in his short driving career. He teamed up with the Pettys in 1970 & won the 1970 Daytona 500. Richard's engine blew up early in the race

Racing with Marcus in the Matadore. Rodger Penske was involved with the AMC program. I was at Rockingham Motor Speedway in 71 & was Watching Dave drive the Mat. He nearly lost it in turn 1 right in front of me. He almost smacked the wall. Gathered it up & kept on diggin. I am so happy I was around to see this era. These where real cars with a lot of ingunity bread into them. Drum brakes & near stock suspensions. Unbeliveable they raced as good as they did.
