Hello gents, I am looking for a source for vinyl top material for my 67 Newport custom. I have not had good luck with SMS (they don't answer their phone), so if there are other options out there, I'd like to hear about them. Cheers and thanks as always from Tampa, Rich

Thanks for the link, but what's on my '67 CE23 doesn't match any of their vinyls. Mine is also a factory-installed top, which matches other Chryslers up through the 1973 model year. What I see there are pretty much GM grains, fwiw.

Get a detailed picture of the grain, send it to them, see if they can match it, OR request a swatch sample. Just to ensure a correct match.

Enjoy!

www.smsautofabrics.com has most of the colors and patterns.

Legendary is having a sale now, I’d check with them too.

Second vote for Newstalgia.
Good people to deal with, good pricing and good quality product shipped promptly.
All are "made to order" so takes 10 days to process then shipped afterwards.
Roughly 2 weeks from phone call to your door.

I agree with that but they do offer the Boar grain which is "correct" for extra cost.
I opted to go with one of their other grains that is "close enough" for the Fury.
Sure youse guys know, but the general public will not know the difference and probably don't care as long as it looks good .
The Legendary top costs over 500 bux!!
Not feasible for our non-numbers matching car,IMHO

My current plan is to have Medina repainted next year in time for the 50th b-day at Carlisle (@fc7_plumcrazy will be delighted to see her stripe gone). I'll replace the vinyl top (and have the metal underneath painted for good protection) at the same time -- the original was replaced by a previous owner and currently does not "need" to be done, so I might as well do things properly.

I have searched the forum but not found information on the name of the Polara/Monaco vinyl grain in '71. The only thread I have found dates back to 2013 and does not mention the material name. As there were several grains in '70 (e.g., gator), I wonder. Medina's broadcast sheet simply says V1W.

Legendary has a single choice: white boar grain. With the 20% off coupon (Edit for @Richard Reau: the coupon is automatically applied at checkout), it comes to $331 + S&H + tax. No picture of the material is provided, though. Does anyone have experience to confirm that it is correct?

Newstalgia provides two choices called "Elk off white" and "Levant white" -- both for $229.50. Is either of them correct?

Any other choices? SMS has multiple choices but does not specify up front whether Levant, Elk, or Boar is correct (my guess is the latter).

I agree . I checked their convertible top selection and the same is true, incorrect pattern which is disappointing.
Gotta be correct or reasonably close in pattern and color regardless of cost.

I think a lot of places are making do with minimal staff, most likely some people working from home.

Yeah I know.
Think I got spoiled using Amazon so often.
I figure many of our vendors are run almost as a hobby or side job.
My car has been around 50 years. It can wait a month or so.

You need to check with local, well established trim shops. Many are well connected with suppliers of these types of materials. Some may be happy to get rid of their obsolete inventory.

Any such shop in Illinois?

Google is your friend....... don't expect others to do your research, seek and you shall find. :poke:

Sheesh. You think I would ask without having already done so (searches and asked around) — and come up empty handed?

You'd think you could ask for recommendations from other members without someone busting your balls.

A simple google search for trim shops in your area will bring great results, asking around works too. Sure... I know of a few shops in my area and that's how I found them. But I don't live in Ill.
You would be surprised at how many folks don't know how to use search engines. Or are to lazy to try themselves.

You might avoid this kind of response by mentioning your search came up negative, which is unlikely.:poke:
