My seats didn't work, either, so I dragged them out and started looking for mechanical problems. But noticing that the mechanism looked quite robust and all linkages/drive cables were in order, I first used a power supply and clip-leads to see if the motor(s) worked. They worked fine.

The switches were the bitches. Here's the test procedure for all three motors (back and forth, up and down, tilt):
