I have a 1959 Dodge Custom Royal four-door hardtop that has been in the family since the fall of 1959. I acquired it from my grandfather in 1996. At that time all it needed was new tires and a major tuneup, having only 77,000 miles. Since then I have driven it about 2000 miles, including a round trip to Phoenix Arizona. I have daily drivers which usually park on the driveway blocking the Dodge. That and the fact that it takes a harbor pilot to pull the Dodge out of the garage has meant that it has sat a lot recently with only occasional driving around the block. I retired a few years back, and with the Coronavirus pandemic keeping me at home, I have taken the opportunity to begin to go through the Dodge and make gentle improvements. I've run into some questions and issues that I'm hoping the forum can help me with.
