Had some interesting news from the team at Coker Tire this weekend. I was at the booth and they had a new reproduction tire on an extremely nice 1969 Recall wheel. She watched me look at it - take a picture and then pick up the catalog. I got two pages turned and she said we’re not making those, YET…

The GNRS was very light traffic Friday so we had a nice long chat no crowd no hurry and she told me the response to that one silly wheel at Barrett Jackson was not to be believed. How do I get them, when can I get them, are you taking deposits etc etc etc. she said it set off alarms back at the home office and she’s pretty sure they are gonna move on them. She said realistically looking at a year and a half. I told her I’ve heard all that before and she said they know it’ll be a money maker. She also knew how much a used set is going for. I thought that was interesting.

Anyways just throwing that out there under the You Never Know banner.

There was a company reproducing those wheels a while back. Probably ~15-20 years ago and I think they went out of business.

The difference in the repop, like the one pictured, is that it didn't use a trim ring. It will be interesting if Coker uses a trim ring or not.

why were these wheels recalled?
Depends on who you talk to.

The worst I heard was lug nuts loosened and the center hub cracked. At the other end, and probably more accurate, it that the dealerships and tire shops didn't handle aluminum wheels very well, especially retightening after being removed/reinstalled.

I've also read that the "recall" wheels ended up in Mexico and sold as aftermarket wheels.
