WHAT ? Another 61 Fury restroation......

Nice progress Will. Is that the Poly 318 that is staying?

Yes Bob. It has been rebuilt and runs great. I'm adding a 4bbl.
Now that's its all cleaned i'll remove the engine and trans for detailing and will add new control arm bushings, shocks and any steering parts that may be needed. Strip and refinish the stub frame... blah-blah-blah. The usual procedure.

My carburetor came back today. I'm really happy with how it turned out, considering it was totally froze up. This carb is unique to a 1961 318 w/power pack only which was a pretty obscure option then. You think C body stuff is hard to find....?
It's a 3103S, 3103 is 61 318 power pack, "S" means a factory installed carb. The A1 is a date code, I have to determine that yet. Virgil was assembled in April 61.

Just for grins I weighed the intake manifold ..... 50 lbs of iron.

Will, how long did it take you to chemically strip the body? I'm considering doing this on my '64 GTO and saving the $1K to get it blasted.

I stripped the body and both doors in two days Scott, about 10/11 hours using ZIP strip. You can find it at ACE, in a yellow can, for around $35.00 a gallon, Probably double that for hood, fenders & trunk lid. Mine is a convertible so no top, so I would figure on 2 gallons. Virgil had a heavy enamel repaint but the zip strip desolved it just fine. Took about three applications to get to shiny metal using a scraper, steel wool and a fine wire brush. You need good gloves too.
The firewall, interior cavity and underbody we sand blasted.
I'm pleased with the outcome and saved the $1000.00 stripping fee, better used for parts and services, like the carburetor.

Some shiny motivation. I'm tired of posting pictures of dissembled, rusty, dirty stuff. This is some of the stuff I have been working on and collecting for the past 3 1/2 years. I have a bedroom dedicated to finished parts and this is just a taste of them.
Bumpers are rechromed and ready to install, steering wheel is re cast......... There will be some fun in the future.

LikeThe Critter's restoration thread, I am sitting back in amazement at the work going into the car while I hear a cash register in the background ringing constantly. :)

WHAT......? Can't hear you over the ringing noise..... LOL.

So far it's been spread out over a few years Stan. If i'm lucky, in the end I'll come out flush. Most of the labor, stripping, cleaning and mechanical I do myself.
