What makes this an S23?

This was just listed on ebay and the S23 option got my attention, but looking at the car, am I missing something? Ok I'm confused, what is S23?

wow ..i always thought that S/23 were all 2 doors .......23 is the 3 and 4th digit in the vin which would mean two door hardtop.

i can be wrong about that but thats what i was thinking
