Hello and good afternoon folks, how many of you out there have thrown a set of aftermarket wheels on your cars? More specifically, wider than stock? Drag radials, or slicks even? I'm curious as to how much rubber I can fit out back. Looking to run a 275-285 on the street..I'm currently running a 235/75-15 w/ 4.25" backspacing and there's PLENTY of room for more, but I'm curious to hear what some of you have experienced.

so I had 245s on 7.5" rims with 3.5" back space..had about 1" to the skirts and 2.5" to the springs. if you are handy with numbers you can work from there...67 newport

You can fit 275-60x15 on 15x7 cop rims on the back of a 65 Fury and still put skirts back on. I have done it on my Fury. The tires would work better on 15x8 rims but you'd have to have the right offset to keep the skirts.

My 68 Sport Fury is stock so I don't need a lot of rubber out back for traction. My car is a cruiser with the stock 383 4bbl running through a 727 to an 8.75 Sure Grip with highway gears. My car came from the factory with 14" Magnums and power drums all around but an upgrade to 73 Chrysler discs up front was done 3 years ago. This also necessitated a move up in rim size. I initially thought to go with a set of reproduction 15" Magnums but I was surprised and disappointed to find the cost was pretty high and tire selection very limited. My Mopar friends pointed me to the American Racing VN501s that look like the Magnums but come in modern wheel sizes with different widths. Again, my car does not need a lot of rubber for traction so I was not looking to put the biggest tires possible under it. I went with the VN501s in 17x7 and I am very happy with them. I could easily fit 8" out back and possibly larger, but don't need to. Also, my car does not have skirts. My tires are a set of BF Goodrich g-force comp-2 and the size is 235/55ZR17. This combo was far cheaper than what I was originally considering, plus it looks great and handles great. The only downside is a slightly harsher ride when you run the air pressure up above 40psi, which is common as you increase the wheel size and reduce the sidewall.

Will the Mopar Bullseye center caps fit those VN501 wheels?

I put those center caps on but I have the VN500. So not 100% sure but on mine they fit. The back side plate has 5 small metal tabs and a few of them had to be ground down a bit for the plate to sit flat and let the bolts grab a few threads. They look good.

Love those wheels. I was close to going that route on my car if I couldn’t find whitewalls to fitmy car.

I put 15X8 4-1/2 on 5, 4.5" backspacing, 2.45/60-15 tires on 67 Fury III (no skirts). Fit is really good.
