Where was this Mopar Brochure/Ad Photo shot?

Prior to the current configuration, the crosswalks were different. This went back to day one as well.

Where is the 1964 Bonnevill
e?

1. Northeastern United States City and State?
2. Generally speaking, is location still there? Yes, No?
3. If yes, can you get a recognizable digital picture today (61 years later)?

Definition of the northeast US (nine states) according to the Census Bureau.

No trickery here, very little to no artistic license by illustrators (Fitz and Van were actually faithful to the contemporary locations of their illustrations, almost every location they visited in person, and they always used photographs for accuracy beyond their memories) in their original illustration.

So the third question. Still there? Can you recognize it today, if so? Only way to know 3.,, is to find the location -- thats hardest part, but then you'll know everything if you do.

Answer Thursday or Friday. This one might challenge the best of you all, IF you havent been/are not from here.

Still there, different shops but imminently recognizable. This one was HARD to find, and happened to be in same city as #846.

New Game. Last one for me as OP until fall 2025.

Where is this 1963 Ford Fairlane?

1. Specific US city, state, and location in that city?
2. This location still there today?

One clue: "Don't throw stones" here. :poke:

Answer next Monday.

#864. Ford World Heaquarters, West Side, Dearborn, MI. Colloquially called the "Glass House".

1746448007209.png

The rectangular building (opened in 1956) faces "south", so technically the east/west end (some signage has been added) look pretty much the same.

Unless you found this photo online (which tells where the Fairlane was), or know that area firsthand, the far right background in the photo is the south easterly side (and only that side) of the building.

If you said it was taken at the Ford World HQ, that's plenty accurate enough.

Adios 'til the fall.

Ontario plates. Hmmm. Wonder if there are WINDS over there OR not, when looking at that special skyline across the river?

867 Is downtown Windsor Ontario canada directly south of Detroit,Michigan. The body of water is the Detroit River and of course wth background city is Detroit's downtown viewed from Canada.

yes you can park there today (20 years ago you couldn't easily get in there) as its was the Grand_Trunk_Railway yards (its now grand trunk park a tourist destination along the north side of the river). This members is 67 Monaco is a relatively new acquisition i think.

not sure where in the park its parked as i don't recall layout well enough as i have been gone 40years. i am sure its about as close to the water as you can get and directly across the river from Detroit.

easier than it seems. think a bit of likely spot before you look if its not immediately recognizeable.

where is this 1975 Dodge Monaco Brougham?

1, city, state, country?
2. location still there? it was in a James Bond (Which one?) movie 30 years ago
3. I have only seen it albeit awhile back. definitely pricey so i was just a tourist even with General,s expense account and supplier invitation to watch some filming of the movie.

Answer in a couple days.

Well, the name of the car gives it up. I'd wager money on that!

872 is a casino/luxury hotel in Monaco (on the French Riviera).

1760984399816.png

the casino (Monte Carlo Casino - Wikipedia) is on the left while the "Paris hotel of Monte Carlo" ($1,000 a night - only for the well heeled) is directly in the background.

300rag pictures in 874 shows current state. you can still visit/stay there. 30 years ago it was the casino in Golden Eye where bond met Onatopp.

quite frankly, it really outta the big Dodge's league - even then. nice car but.....

New Game. I debated using this for a long time because locals could be advantaged. even then, its a hard game.

Where is this 1961 Galaxie?

The illustrator (John Killmaster, was a contemporary competitor of Art and Van) took significant liberties, i believe, given my location thoughts. Other people may believe it is some other location altogther and go another course.

Its clearly implied to be an an urban background was desired and specific structures are identifiable but i conclude it is geographically impossible to get this in a picture. it has never been possible given location of real structures. at least one prominent (opened in 1960) identifying structure is demolished (2012) now.

1. What north American, midwest city inspired this illustration?
2. identify at least one structure depicted?
3. i think we've been to this implied city before. if you believe not, why not (offer proof)?

my guess in a few days. i am pretty sure.

one member/player saw it the way i did. we both are longtime locals though.

illustrator was at a local art school at the time which is a hint and a fact that maybe helps narrow this one down. car itself is a clue. at least one, maybe two, distinctive structures. one remains today if this city was in fact the artist's inspiration-rest may be shameless artistic license.

876 answer.

last year and then in 1961 looking northeast. then 1980's pic of Cobo, then today, then map of location of Arena vs. church - about mile as crow flies with taller stuff in between to obscure line of sight), in ad, car is depicted going southerly toward the the Detroit River.

i think inspiration city is Detroit.

the round building on the right looks like old Cobo Arena (Auto Show location), which would have been under 2 years old in 1960 (Year it opened to public). but very futuristic, then a host of illustration problems (angles/sight lines all wrong). Arena is still there, and still round, but is heavily remodeled ("Cobo Hall" is called Huntington Place) now.

the steepled building looks a lot like the "Fort street Presbyterian church (built 1855 - 170 years ago)". the other buildings illustrated are unidentified but probably an existing downtown structure. the church is really north and west of Cobo, at a right angle facing north on Fort street, and you'd be hard pressed to see them and impossible to see them together let alone be on the same street. you cant even see one from the other.

ilustrator was at Cranbrook Art Academy about 15 miles away. Dearborn-based Ford was one of "big three" then.'" Never been street lights like that anywhere in Detroit, though.

I am sure that's the old, round Cobo Arena in the illustration. challenges are welcome :)
