- '72 Dodge Polara 4-dr. sedan.
- Currently has 15x5.5" black steel wheels and Dodge "redline" aluminum poverty caps.
- Broadcast Sheet is correct for the car; "H SERIES 1972"; Build date 4/14/71 (414 = first 3 digits of V.O.N.; "CANADIAN SPEC" at the bottom.
- I verified some codes (in bold) using the '69 - '74 Mopar Broadcast Sheet book by Jake Hare.
- The codes I can't verify are in italics and underlined.
- Line 4 "Wheels": "Road" = 57 (15x5.5 painted C-body), "Color" = TX9 (black), "Spare" = 00 (no code 00 listed in the book for 1972-1974).
- Line 4 "Wheel Cover" = 54 (no code 54 listed in the book for 1972; 1970-1971 code 54 = Standard hub cap (aluminum) Dodge; 1973-1974 code 54 = Standard hub cap Dodge)
- Line 12 "WH/COV": "Covers or Delete" = 01 (no code 01 listed in the book for 1969-1974, "Road Wheels" = 93 (no code 93 listed in the book for 1972).

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

From the parts books,
The dog-dish in 72 was 2944-089 (stainless)
The dog-dish in 73 was 2944-454 (aluminum)
I'm guessing your car is a late build and they switched over to the aluminum dog-dish
I think about 72 cars with the dog-dish caps got standard black wheels and not body color ones

Thanks for the info.; my build date was 4/14/71.
So, I have 15x5.5" black painted steel wheels with standard (dog-dish) aluminum caps.
Any thoughts on Line 12 "WH/COV": "Covers or Delete" = 01 (no code 01 listed in the book for 1969-1974), "Road Wheels" = 93 (no code 93 listed in the book for 1972).

I'm not familiar with the 72 sheets, it appears there are some changes in the layout.
The top section "build codes" are part/assembly numbers
The lower section "sales codes" are option codes.

In the build code section the number you see is the last digits of the part/assembly number.
In the sales code section the number you see is the option/sales code.

W-01 is probably not listed and is probably for the dog dish which are standard. In 69 this was blank if you had dog dish.
I'd have to see the broadcast sheet to better understand the road wheel block.

In 67 a block was labeled Tachometer but the code could be for a Vacuum gauge. So don't let the label confuse you.

Get a picture of that section of the sheet and I might be able to look into it.

I attached pictures of Line 12 and a section of the book I reference in post #1.

Doing a little internet sleuthing
W93 15 x 5.5 Blk Road Wheel

In the only 15x5.5 wheel in the 72 parts book is a 15 x 5.05 Painted 3621957 which goes along with the 57 in your build section.

With this I'd say that is a standard black wheel that is 15 x 5.5
There are no 15x5.5 "Styled Wheel" in the parts book

The picture's becoming clearer and I'm gaining knowledge as well. I incorrectly assumed the term "Road Wheel" meant something fancier than a black painted steel wheel.

Regarding the "Covers or Delete" code 01, the paragraph above from the book says ".... used to designate the optional wheel covers" and ".... it does not apply to standard wheel covers." That makes sense because I have standard wheel covers, not optional wheel covers, as listed in the chart.

Years ago, I had two M-body police package cars ('87 Fury & '88 Diplomat) followed by several Crown Vic. P71's and membership in the PCOOA.

Thanks again for your help.

The Hare decode book is filled with errors, incorrect, incomplete or misleading information. Much of the book leads to more confusion than it clears up. (As you are finding....)

It's pretty good for overall theory of sheets but falls way short when it comes to accuracy for individual years and codes. It simply cannot be all it needs to be. I would not rely on it for a reference in this situation.

Mr. Mopar got you on track with the wheel code. The 54 code is the Dodge dog dish.

That sure sounds too early for a build date?? Am i just confused??
The scheduled production date is the first three digits of the V.O.N. (414). The first digit is the month; the second and third digits are the day of the month. I assumed it was built in '71 for the '72 model year, but I could be wrong.

July would be early, April would be late.
This is DL41K2F236754 we are talking about. April 14, 1972 scheduled build date.
