I dont disagree that it should have a mopar in it, however lots of people now drop the GM LS engines in everything. And honestly I cant blame em. You can buy a cheap 5.3 LS out of a rolled over tahoe or 'burban for several hundred dollars, add a pair of turbos, and an intercooler and run the crap out of them. When they go pop, go buy another one for a couple hundred and do it again.
My mopar stuff is gonna stay mopar powered, ditto for my chevy truck, it will stay chevy powered, and my mustang will stay ford powered. I dont believe in bastardizing any breed.
Heres the thing, that car may have just been sitting rotting away somewhere, and at least its being put to use. To the unwashed masses in the grandstands its a badass chrysler that wheelstands, and generates interest in mopars no matter whats under the hood.
When movie companies drop in chevy crate motors in their set vehicles its simply because they need a common engine that they can buy all the same parts for no matter what body its in. Its all economies of scale. The hoods never get popped in these movies, and if they do, its usually 1 closeup shot car thats got the correct engine just for the purists. Heck if i was in the business of making movie prop cars i'd use chevy crate engines too.
Some A body guys lament others that use a ford explorer sport trak 8.8 rear end in their A bodies. Why ?? It shares mopars big bolt pattern, comes with rear disc brakes, 3.73 gearing stock, and a traction lok differential all for about $200. Or find all the parts to build a decent A body 8&3/4 for $1,200.
Dittos for using a GM 200-4R overdrive automatic behind a mopar V8. Why not. They are inexpensive and compact enough that they fit the stock tunnel. Lots of aftermarket stuff for em, and an adaptor is out there to mate it to a mopar V8, plus the A500 mopar overdrive doesnt fit the tunnels as well.
Not everybody has super deep pockets to run a big block chrysler. Or build up a mopar 8&3/4 from scratch, thats why theres alternatives.
