Why is this hemi in the back?

Monteverdi 450 HAI

I have seen pictures of this car some time ago but had no idea what powered it. Looks like an awesome car. Pretty crude looking chassis by today's standard.

But we are talking about a car designed and built 50 years ago and I think a car in this price range (over $500K) would be maintained with original parts.

From the article...

The one and only Hai 450 SS is now in excellent condition. Its owner as of 2006 decided to treat the vehicle to a full restoration, returning the car to its original state after a string of European owners had each left their mark on the car.

Be that as it may, I'd still rather have the Sanden unit on it. When you're building or restoring a car like this remember, add lightness! That "double lunger" is about 15 lbs versus about 6, not to mention way more efficient. On a 500k car I think anyone in that has that kinda coin to throw around would appreciate the upgrade.

Saw this on Facebook too. What I wondered, then and now, after all of this hard work, why not use the correct spark-plug wires???

How many points would that cost him at Pebble Beach?

Getting back to the original post... a mid engined sports car has great handling. That's where it's at in my book. This thing must be awesome with that 426 in there!

Chevy should've came out with their mid engine years ago, but finally they did! I've read some pretty good stuff on them.

The Chevy powered Bill Thomas Cheetah was pretty close to mid engine in 1963.

Sweet, but it looks like a Chaparral to me...
He was a friend of my buddy Jim Becker. Jim’s dad owned Chandler Dodge and his pop Frannie was friends w Craig Jackson’s dad and was a HUGE C body and Forward Look collector way before they were collected. That’s how I met him. He built crazy little spy planes for the US government in latter life. I’ve been gone from Az for so long I have no idea if he’s still around. He didn’t own the cam am car when I got to see it. That thing is smaller than it looks when you see it in real life. I can remember it was super loud, it had little straight pipes & the motor looks like a 68 SS mill. Not sure if that’s how it was set up when it raced. Awesome car. One of the perks of living in Az is eventually you will see every car ever made...
